U.S. Officials Admit They Have Lied About Ukraine Success and Russian Failures

3 June 2022 by Larry Johnson 35 Comments

Told you so. The U.S. and NATO have been lying about what is actually taking place on the ground in Ukraine. For those not familiar with my early writings on the actual situation, go back a look at my previous articles written in March– Is Russia on the Ropes in Ukraine? and Update on the Military Situation in Ukraine.

NBC News, not known as a pro-Putin media outlet, published this bombshell this week:

It was an attention-grabbing assertion that made headlines around the world: U.S. officials said they had indications suggesting Russia might be preparing to use chemical agents in Ukraine.

President Joe Biden later said it publicly. But three U.S. officials told NBC News this week there is no evidence Russia has brought any chemical weapons near Ukraine. They said the U.S. released the information to deter Russia from using the banned munitions.

It’s one of a string of examples of the Biden administration’s breaking with recent precedent by deploying declassified intelligence as part of an information war against Russia. The administration has done so even when the intelligence wasn’t rock solid, officials said, to keep Russian President Vladimir Putin off balance. . . .

Just this week, national security adviser Jake Sullivan stood at the White House podium and read out what officials said was more declassified intelligence, asserting that Russia’s pullout from areas around Kyiv wasn’t a retreat but a strategic redeployment that signals a significant assault on eastern and southern Ukraine, one that U.S. officials believe could be a protracted and bloody fight.

NBC makes a desperate try to put lipstick on this pig and call it Marilyn Monroe, i.e. a thing of beauty and brilliance, but the bottomline is stark and simple–the U.S. Government lied to the American people and acheived NOTHING to change the tactical and strategic picture on the ground in the Donbas. This information did nothing to unbalance Putin or his military command. Instead, they grinded the defenders of Mariupol into dust and are reclaiming steadily territory in the Donbas that Ukraine once controlled. I am sure the United States cannot survive many more “successful” intelligence operations like the ones they have backed so far.

Jake Sullivan’s confirmation that Ukraine did not defeat the Russians and force them from Kiev speaks volumes. I would remind you that Andrei Martyanov, Scott Ritter, Doug MacGregor, Jacob Dreizin and I analyzed the Russian tank columns positioned north of Kiev as a feint that pinned key Ukrainian forces around Kiev while the Russians carried out a strategic redeployment to the Donbas to work on destroying entrenched Ukrainian troops.

If you think the West has learned its lesson and opted to focus on truth, think again. Germany’s Economy Minister, Robert Habeck, was peddling these whoppers to his own government this week:

Western sanctions in response to Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine are still taking a heavy toll on the Russian war machine. . . .The Russian economy is collapsing,” . . . adding that Germany had played its part here by reducing exports to Russia in March by 60%, with an even sharper fall expected in April.

The obvious question for any reporter with the brain power of a cretin would be, “what is the evidence that Russia’s economy is collapsing?” The truth is that all sectors are firing on all cylinders. Just because Germany has decided to commit economic hari kari by declining to purchase cheap Russian oil, does not mean that Russia is bleeding out financially. The Economist reported two weeks ago that Russia is running a record trade surplus.

Yes, Russia is importing fewer Mercedes and BMWs via the open market. First, Russia is not dependent on having western luxury items filling western owned stores. Second, the Russian mafia is more than willing to fill the gap and obtain such goods via the black market. Seems like the West never learns.

Habeck also forgets the first rule of crisis management–when you are in a hole, stop digging. He made this even more outlandish claim:

Moscow had lost access to parts crucial to its ability to fight the war, . . . such as “security updates for airplanes, with the result that the planes will soon be grounded”.

He apparently did not get the briefing, widely available in the public domain, that Russia builds it own planes, rockets, space ships and tanks. Putin did not outsource critical industry to China or Mexico. Reality will remind the United States and its crazy European allies that Russia is the only superpower with a self-sufficient economy. The economy of Russia is not dependent on having a Russian version of Rodeo Drive filled with overpriced baubles.

The endless lies and incompetence of the entire Biden administration is becoming the stuff of legend. In both foreign and domestic policy, what we are witnessing is a watershed event in the collapse of confidence in both government and the media which to me is a good thing.

Just to add a bit more fuel to the fire, Zerohedge today had this header for an article about a Biden speech: “Is This Real?”: Biden Gives Bizarre Inflation Speech Full Of Obvious Lies and under a picture of Biden, “Enough hot air in that speech to service a balloon festival…”

you ought to understand and ”prepare”’ once the public loses its trust in its government and the institutions so charged the next ”inevitable”’ stage is the public loses trust in the currency…money… that government emits for economic use by the public.

once THAT occurs what starts out as 8% inflation becomes zimbabwe levels of currency destruction and the money dies…….and this process once it begins takes much less time to complete than you might suppose.

the difference between garden variety inflation and hyperinflation is the publics loss of trust in the underlying government and those officials

Oh my God. Yes, this children’s book author, storyteller and now amateur ministerial actor of a totally incompetent and ideologized third-rate circus troupe that calls itself the government. For more than 40 years I’ve been watching this cucumber troupe from the party “The Greens”. Founded in 1980 and mostly crocheting and knitting when a few of these civil failures sat in parliament. Even then it was a complete mystery to me how anyone could vote for a party that not only called German soldiers murderers, but also opposed everything that had anything to do with progress and prosperity. In Germany, the Greens were seen as a pacifist party with the slogan: create peace without weapons. And now this. Already in 1999 an illegal war was opened against Serbia (and thus a precedent for the current operation in the Ukraine) and that under the leadership of the Greens in the person of Foreign Minister Fischer. He and Albright got along well. What can I say? The Greens were less than a year in government and the first war in Europe after 1945 was already over. And now it’s happening again. This time, too, the Greens have not been in government for a year and are drumming out pure war propaganda even more violently than in 1999. Consider: this party started in 1980, for peace, nature and environmental protection. Nothing remains of that. Not only that: this party (as useful for freedom and prosperity as a goiter) has softened the brains of German citizens with the help of the green and left-filthy media. I have no other explanation for the completely stupid voting behavior of the German citizens. where: in Berlin a massive electoral fraud has now been uncovered, which was covered with the help of the previous government. The mass media tries hard to keep this secret.
If you think Mr. Habeck is borderline, then look at German Foreign Minister Baerbock. She has no professional training, wrote a book full of plagiarism, she had to take the book off the market and was also convicted with an at least questionable degree from a London private university. And with this outstanding qualification, she “only” became Foreign Minister in the best Germany of all time. 😉 Only? Yes, the media drummed her up as a chancellor candidate. By the way, she is also one of the global young leaders of Onkel Klaus (WEF).

A few years ago, in a German blog, an author expressed his suspicion that the Greens are not only controlled by the CIA or affiliated branches, but that the CIA had its fingers in the pie when the Greens were founded, to control part of the German left at the time to control.
I am now convinced that Germany was almost wiped out after 1945. We were allowed to do business and were successful with it. Politically, however, we were bound by instructions to a certain extent. Since then we have never been masters of our own house, but a branch of others. When I served in the West German military, we were told with a wink: in an emergency (as we used to call war) the Bundeswehr is only there to hold off the enemy for 24-48 hours until the right troops arrive. After German reunification, young soldiers in the NVA (East German military) were told the same thing.
What I write is still very superficial. Believe me, the woke generation of smartphone zombies is overwhelmed by this and very delicate souls would have to seek shelter after reading. What led us into this dilemma of a formerly freer and more prosperous West? Following the statement of an “interesting” politician, lawyer and president: it’s education, stupid

Wasn’t John Kirby, the Pentagon spokesman, pretending to cry because it was ‘difficult to look at some of the images’ of Vladimir Putin’s ‘cruel’ and ‘depraved’ invasion of Ukraine. No disrespect to the Americans but their country seems to be run by lily-livered popinjays (to use a Shakespearean expression). you would be so naive to think german’s leadership can be independent from US grip. Just like other vassal states eg canada , aus , japs , nz , no independent leaders can last long before being replaced by puppet loyal to US diktat,

german is not a free nation , japan is not a free nation , they are US colonies with local characteristics.

You’re right. I’m not that naive. 🙂 But the extent of this dependency, which can amount to complete subservience, is frightening.
I am an ardent admirer of the USA. For several years I have referred only to their Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson, and the many true American patriots. In Germany it is actually forbidden to love your country differently than the government says. In the meantime, many things are reminding me more and more of the Eastern European states of the Warsaw Pact.
Are the political leaders and advisers completely devoid of any historical education? Most likely, and they probably don’t care. Whatever these supposed elites intend to do, they will not succeed.

By the way, today it was reported in the German media that over 54% of Germans are satisfied with the warmonger and foreign minister actress Baerbock. I think that’s propaganda.

as for the germans , they voted for the greens without rational analysis of who the green’s real masters, that tell us how stupid average german voters are.

they deserve the leaders they voted for , into the recession and depression

Yes, I heard and read that Russia was “Inching,” closer to taking over southern Ukraine and working slowly towards Odessa as the final capture. The plea for more precision guidance rockets seem to finally be answered and given by what Victor Davis Hanson has termed, “Cabinency of Dunces,” also known as the Biden Administration.

I have to admit that the information that I reading from this site makes more sense and dispels much of what I am reading in the media, including WSJ! With that being said, I do pray for a miracle and that Russia is defeated.

Too bad your so called prayer are not based on true faith and directed to true God , just like so many american and westerners who think God is with them , which is really sad delusion considering God already said He is not a respecter of any nations but He will protect His own sheep.

the incredible mass delusion infecting Western so called “christianity” will led these people into defeat as they do not do what God commands but only take appearance of being religious. That is why these people will lightly spout “prayer” at every moment and never once understand that one do not come to God with fake prayers , it will be dismissed just like cain’s dishonest offering.

Of course they lie. They always lie and why not? They never get punished. They usually get rewarded so they lie about everything especially wars. Eventually the lies are admitted somewhere. But it doesn’t matter. They work just as well the next time.

The managerial class has no option but to embrace every lie. To reject one is to be a heretic. The more obvious the lie, the more it serves as a loyalty test.

However, unlike our vassal states, the rest of the world increasingly doesn’t need to go along with these lies. It will interesting to see what happens if the multipolar world order gains enough hold that some of our vassal states break away. Will the incompetent sociopaths who run the White West take everyone else down with them?

I think the lies were to get support at home and abroad, not change the tide, per se. Americans love, want a winner. If they had told them that the Ukrainians were doomed to lose, who would have sent money or weapons (not that the weapons they sent were any good, as you have pointed out)? My question about Germany is how long can they keep up the lies that it is hurting Russia more than Germany? I know this thread is about Larry being correcto mundo on Russia’s walloping the Ukrainian’s but man, I’d love to learn more about the ‘massive electoral fraud’ you mention in Berlin. Bet it’s identical to challenges we are digging up here.

Btw, Larry, not only were you correct in assessing the might of the two forces – Russia and Ukraine’s – you have also been spot on with your reporting on the ongoing deterioration of Ukraine’s national guard. Testimonials given by these men in many cases is wrenching. Yet they continue to be ignored by command.

There’s a testimonial by an older gentleman who dared to sneak out of his home to go buy a pack of smokes when he was picked up and scripted into the military. It’s a crazy story that speaks volumes of desperation. It’s over on Juan Sinmiedo’s telegram channel who by the way posts great on the ground reporting out of Ukraine.

Am getting the impression that something has shifted with Western mainstream media in that it seems that they really don’t care that much of what is said is clearly inaccurate. Why? Because people who read exposes like here on your blog don’t communicate with people who read the MSM stuff and the ones who read the latter don’t look elsewhere. Thanks to the social media platforms Intelligence has extremely precise knowledge of peoples’ viewing/reading habits and are now able, I suspect, to target the right sort of narrative to any given target demographic or category. Highbrow folks get highbrow narratives via NYT, WAPO etc. whilst others are getting their narratives via Daily Mail or Slate or Fox News or whatever. But in most cases most people get their news from like-minded and limited number of sources.

So they can say whatever they like to Slate readers, for example, knowing that no Fox News reader will ever see it, or any Moon of Alabama or Saker or whatever reader for that matter as well.

The main target of any given propaganda is the home audience who read it. Since they know others with different sources of information don’t read their stuff, they really aren’t concerned about being called out. And if they are, ‘Fake News!’ they can cry and their homeys will believe them.

I am a bona fide Son of American Revolutionaries. At least 24 of my ancestors, men and women, fought to free the American Colonies from British rule. Some died for the cause of liberty. Though two and a half centuries have passed since my great grandfathers and grandmothers took up arms, the principles they fought for remain valid and relevant to the 21st Century.
