Ukrainian Military Units Continue Rebelling against Their Commanders

28 May 2022 by Larry Johnson 32 Comments

When I wrote this piece initially last week, I identified 6 Ukrainian units that filmed themselves rebelling against their chain of command. These “rebellion” videos came on the heels of the surrender of more than 2500 members of the AZOV battalion at Mariupol. Now the number is 12–that is 12 different units in the Donbas. They all voice the same complaints about their chain of command for not properly supplying them with the weapons and equipment they need to fight. This is not your normal troop bitching about conditions. All soldiers in all wars throughout history have passed the time complaining about lousy food, terrible weather, inept commanders and stupid decisions. What you see below is unprecedented in my memory.

These soldiers still believe in fighting for Ukraine but are not keen on being used as a Russian punching bag. They believe their commanders are asking them to commit suicide. Below you can watch videos of soldiers from 12 units presenting a formal demand to President Zelensky and the Ukrainian General in Command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. This is appearing on Ukrainian social media. It is not a Russian propaganda piece. Here are the units:

  • 13th Battalion of 58th Motorized Infantry Brigade
  • 2nd Company of the 46th Rifle Battalion
  • 3rd Platoon of the 46th Infantry Battalion
  • 115th Brigade
  • 3rd Platoon of the 115th Brigade
  • 71st Jaeger Infantry Brigade
  • Ukrainian 14th Brigade: 6th Battalion, 4th, 5th, and 6th companies
  • Cherkasy Territorial Defense
  • 95th Separate Airborne Assault Brigade
  • 30th Mechanized Brigade 3rd Battalion 9th Company
  • 57th Motorized Brigade
  • 18th Marine Battalion of the 35th Brigade
13th Battalion of 58th Motorized Infantry Brigade
2nd Company of the 46th Rifle Battalion
3rd Platoon of the 46th Infantry Battalion
115th Brigade
3rd Platoon of the 115th Brigade
71st Jaeger Infantry Brigade
Ukrainian 14th Brigade: 6th Battalion, 4th, 5th, and 6th companies
Cherkasy Territorial Defense
95th Separate Air Assault Brigade
30th Mechanized Brigade 3rd Battalion 9th Company
57th Motorized Brigade
18th Marine Battalion of the 35th Brigade

I know this is a ton of material. Those of you who believe this is all stage managed by the Russians need to explain why this is being posted on Ukrainian social media accounts. These are real Ukrainian soldiers and they are taking major risks in speaking up. This is not just one or two disgruntled privates bitching about cold chow. The members of each unit clearly felt the need to be seen supporting their spokesman.

If you took the time to watch each one you come away with enormous respect for the courage and integrity of the men speaking. I believe they are patriots who have been deceived into fighting for a false cause. But they are brave, honorable soldiers.

Being brave and honorable does not immunize one against thermobaric and conventional artillery blasts pounding the ground around your fox hole or trench. We are not talking metaphor. The blast waves pummel the body and brain of those subjected to these barrages. It is because to the stepped up Russian offensive that these Ukrainian troops are speaking up. I think the Ukrainian expression is, “Черт, нет, мы не пойдем” (i.e., Hell no, we won’t go).

At a minimum, I think this may account for rumors about coup plans to oust Zelensky. Zelensky clearly is losing critical support among the Ukrainian troops. I think it is only a matter of time before commanders start to follow.

These men are courageous patriots and we should salute them. These are the men who will rebuild Ukraine, oust the western grifters who are strip mining Ukraine to enhance their own wealth.
Wouldn’t it excellent to see them join forces with the Russians to clean up their own country.
This surely would result in soiled diapers in the White House.

Indeed, kinda like the Chechen’s did when they finally figured out the west was just using them. Now they are some of the best fighters Russia has to offer. Hopefully the Ukie fighters figure that out too, as they don’t seem to like the Nazi element very much.

The Chechen’s always seem to be having so much fun. That has to be very creepy for an enemy. Also nice to hear “Allah Akbar” from the good guys.

The same transition will take place in Ukraine. That is why the Russians are going so “slow”.

American cowards would just bomb the fuck out of everyone and everything like Syria, Libya, Iraq, Vietnam, Cambodia oh my the list is so long…

Andrei Martyanov’s latest post has a link to a claim that Severodonetsk has fallen to the Russians

If morale is as low as it seems that may account for the latest ukranian setback.

This was inevitable. I’ve been waiting for it since the invasion began. Soldiers are not going to throw their lives away senselessly for a stupid clown of leader. Same reason that some of the best of the German military, like Rommel, decided to kill Hitler.

I wonder how it will impact the future alignment of UKR with the US. Surely these troops understand the power dynamics involved between Zelensky and the US. I can imagine they will not be favorable to removing Z only to end up with another US idiot puppet. Maybe the result will be a truly independent UKR that can enjoy peaceful relations with both Europe and Russia.

He wanted Hitler removed, but an active officer cannot be directly involved with a plot in the capital city, as he is on the front line most of the time. Hitler would have not disposed of one of his best tacticians unless there was proof of involvement.

i wonder if some of these guys can be recruited to arrest zelensky and his western backed mercenaries ? would take a bit of organization but a large and unified formation of soldiers would be great tool to remove zelensky’s administration..

I never trusted Zelensky, he would sacrifice every Ukrainian. The made a saint out of Ukraine, it’s a holy war, a fight for freedom, democracy, the world depends on this war against the great evil Russia. People are brainwashed, 18-20 olds with no military exprience went to Ukraine to fight. A few months ago they couldn’t find ukraine on the map.

Ukraine mobilized all citizens to fight. The problem is arming them. Here in the EU we don’t have enough weapons to arm citizens when we need a full mobilization to defend us. Even our professional army has not enough bullets, and this is true story, during training they had to shout pang pang. Every military had 3 bullets. Russia has massive equipment stored for a real war.
These Ukrainian battalions are just experiencing losign the war. They don’t have enough trained soldiers and equipment left for this war. One side has to lose. You must know when to surrender. But Ukraine propganda keeps going. Now they showed the Harpoon to take out the Black See Fleet. They also want those long range MRLS. It’s just about killing at the expanse of Ukrainian lifes, send to die with a fake promise. The Ukrainian patriotism is amazing.

Ukraine was never supposed to win the war. The western oligarchs are using Ukraine as a guide to get the rest of the world on NATOs side and possibly either attempting to entice China to invade Taiwan or to scare them. Ukraine is just being used as a psychological sacrificial lamb so we can go to war with Russia looking like the good guys. We’re also seeing how Russians fight and the tech they’re using. Ukrainian soldiers are basically lab rats for NATO. If NATO had any intention of seeing Ukraine win they would have helped them far more with weaponry. They’re fighting to lose so NATO can say we must stop Russia. Putin may have fallen into the hands of NATO. it would be smart of him to the East and wait and rebuild. Make the western Ukrainians see they’re not the bad guys. It’s all psychological now.

Thanks for putting these together as a group – I’d only seen a couple.

As for the “coup” that would be a very high level thing, with little to do with the Territorials.
But certainly any military person with an IQ over 50 must have been asking why Ukraine has been sending soldiers and territorials to certain death with no chance of changing the result for so a month too long now (10 weeks too long for those is IQ>100).

I think the rumours are more inspired guesses than based on actual sources.
    probably true though.

There can be no doubt that these Ukrainian soldiers truly are very brave and genuine patriots. Azov/Nazi criminals and murderers apart, they are still human beings and deserve our understanding and compassion.

It is criminal that the puppet president refuses to enter talks for a cease fire and meaningful negotiations. The death of all these people and destruction of all the property is basically all on him.

Using that logic, the US using the M-16 and assorted variants, designed nearly 70 years ago, shows the US is in terrible shape if its infantry weapons are so old.

The T-62s are being used to police already captured territory. It actually shows that the Russians are damn smart in utilizing these tried and true platforms in a role in which they will excel and instead deploy the newest on the front lines where they will do the most good.
That the western pundits can’t figure this out must have the Russians laughing hysterically.

I read that the T-62’s are to provide security in the rear – its helpful to have a tank at a road block, at intersections, keep lightly armed stragglers and sabotage groups pinned down, that kind of thing. Apparently not destined for front line combat.

Martyanov says that the T-62s have been brought out of storage to hold the Donbas territories that the Russians (and LPR/DPR) have control over. You don’t use your best tanks (or any other weapons) to HOLD territory. You use your BEST weapons at the front of the battle lines. Makes perfect sense.

I’m sure Zelensky isn’t a pauper but he’ll end up as one as least morally. Maybe he could use some of his personal wealth so that his troops have something other than one potato per day to eat.

Having folks high up in the US government who have a long seated deep hatred for all things Russian is not in our best interests. Is it even legal considering the Neutrality Act?We need intelligent and reasonable people in those positions instead, not haters. The interests and reputation of the United States have been harmed greatly by these people, it’s too bad.

Prior to the covid scamdemic, literally thousands of young Russian couples from Siberia would visit Phuket in Thailand for a bit of relief from the bitter cold they live in (kind of like Canadians going to Florida and the Caribbean). It’s only a 5 hour flight, so – why not?
They’d hit the beach, the restaurants, the attractions but not the girly bars. They also appeared to be very attractive and in good shape. I wish our own American youth looked as healthy.

I met several Russians when I was touring Cambodia.
I had climbed to the top of one of the temples at the Angkor complex to find two Russians up top with a small cooler full of beer.

They offered me a cold one and we had a great 30 minute interlude and conversation.
      Wonderful and friendly people.

Two years ago I went SCUBA diving in Boracay in the Philippines. I was alone so the dive master set me up with Sergei as a dive partner. It was one of the best times I had there and we had dinner and drinks afterwards.

Another time on the train from Versailles to Paris I shared facing seats with a pair if Russian honeymooners. Again great conversation with interesting and intelligent people.

I find Russians to be very open, warm and friendly in every situation I have interacted with them.

So when I was in Iraq in 2003, our vehicles had no armor and my soldiers had no ballistic plates (SAPI plates) for their body armor vests…thank you GWB you “F” tard..mind you even in 2003 the US military was the “best” equipped military in the world lol.

The point is it really sucks to have crappy leadership in charge when you are trying to fight a war/conflict. Those poor Ukrainian bastards…they have every right to stage a coup or refuse to fight…the truth is they would be treated better by Russia than a US-NATO led puppet state…nationalism aside.

    Couple of points:

    Reports about old tanks, i.e. T-62 being introduced: my understanding, based upon reports, is that they will be used to secure road check points, and not necessarily in combat situations;

Russian people: I worked in a civilian capacity for large accounting firm in moscow in mid 1990’s, most of the staff was Russian. They were some of the most professional, intelligent people I have worked with over many decades. Moved to central Asia after the ruble collapsed in 1998, in the midst of the western looting of the Yeltzin years; same firm, same capacity, Russians were at the top of the list in terms of competence.
