I know that some in the West are suggesting that there may be a way to negotiate and end to the war in Ukraine and I think they do not understand what Russia is now likely to demand to secure such a deal. For starters, will Russia insist on securing the rights to all territory east of the Dnieper River and on a special status for Odessa? I think so. Odessa would no longer be ruled by Ukraine. I also would expect Russia to demand (non-negotiable) the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the murder of 42 Russian speaking Ukrainians in 2014 who sought refuge in the Trade Unions House.
I also would expect that Russia will demand the dismantling of NATO Aegis missile systems in Poland and Romania and a ban on U.S. or NATO troops being posted in countries that share a border with Ukraine. In light of Russia’s stated goal of de-nazification I would not be surprised if Russia demands the laws of Ukraine be changed and that Nazi-affiliated parties and symbols be banned.
Until Ukraine suffers an irreversible defeat on the battlefield, I think there is little incentive for the United States and its NATO allies to entertain any of the positions outlined above. What worries me is that the Biden Administration has pinned so much of its re-election strategy on a success in Ukraine that it will do something stupid and escalate by using U.S. military personnel to pilot combat aircraft or tanks or Bradley fighting vehicles. This means American military personnel will die in significant numbers in Ukraine and potentially generate political pressure in the United States to expand the war. However, if Biden orders U.S. military troops into battle in Ukraine without Congressional approval I think it will ignite a political firestorm in America that will consume what remains of his Presidency.
The West is failing to grasp the reality that Russia believes it is winning the war in Ukraine and that it is not suffering economic or political damage at home. And, when you factor in the international arena, the war has proven to be a boon for Russia’s efforts to help create a new international financial/trade system that circumvents Washington’s control. In other words, Russia has little incentive to entertain negotiations that would require Russian concessions.
From what I see among the average Bidet voter online, they have a tribal obligation to believe that Russia is losing and any information to the contrary is “Russian propaganda”. Undeniable proof is totally ignored. If Bidet tells them Ukranazistan won and then memory holes the conflict, they will have a tribal obligation to do the same. They’ve already totally memory holed Afghanistan and they’ll do the same with Ukranazistan in a heartbeat.
Therefore I don’t so much see a problem with voters as such. There are Nazi types all over in Canada and the USA. I live in a small town with a local general store that flies the Ukie flag from its veranda. I normally boycott buying anything there and have done since the start of the SMO, but last week I sent my wife in to buy a pound of butter. The owner started playing “musical cash registers” with her, constantly leaving the machine as she approached and going to the other cashier in the store. This went back and forth for quite some time and I finally went in and put a stop to it. The owner had noticed I was not spending in his store and also that I supported Russia’s position in the war. He had earlier stated, “It’s about time we killed some Russians!” This was before the SMO and my comment was originally about Ukraine shelling Russians in the Donbass.
We do not have a functioning press in Canada either and the hate campaign has worked just fine. With this kind of successful psy-ops condition it is very difficult to predict what governments will do given that their mindset in government is also shaped by these lies.

1) EU membership for UA OK but no NATO, signed off by all international parties and an international commission to monitor any moves to the contrary.
2) A recognition of all oblasts that voted to join Russia and codified by a UN Resolution signed by all parties and five independent guaranteeing states.
3) A DMZ, populated by intl peacekeepers and a legitimate version of the OSCE, populated by legitimate members, to be determined, with requirements to log all transgressions, a monthly public report and an immediate move to arrest the transgressors under a legitimate international mandate.
Not mandatory but as icing on the cake:
1) A legitimate international tribunal to try war crimes committed by ANY party, since the outbreak of hostilities in 2014.
2) dropping of the bogus ICC warrant.

We are entering the end game. The US and NATO will either have to abandon the effort, or decide to go all-in. “Part way” won’t work, as any return of US soldiers in body bags will quickly disperse any support the public has for this foolishness.
The problem remains that either of these options means the end of NATO, as it loses either way. It cannot even supply munitions to Ukraine, so would be unable to put up any sustained defense against Russia. That leaves only the nuclear option, but Russia has advantage there too, as they have unstoppable weapons plus a better missile defense system.

At least for the war against Russia, US vassals control a huge amount of adjacent territory used to mount and support the attack, they nominally have hundreds of millions of citizens to be dragooned into a war, and the US had tens of millions of Ukrainians who could be coerced into being cannon fodder in that war.
The US has nothing to mount a war against China other than a number of carrier fleets which, should they come near China, will quickly cease to exist. It controls no contiguous territory and has no vassals who do so. Neither Japan nor South Korea want any part of such a scheme which would unleash a Nork attack on South Korea and probably Japan. Most of the Taiwanese want a peaceful future in some form with China and have observed the terrible fate of Ukraine as a result of it being coerced into a fight with the US’s declared enemy.
I appreciate the US is governed by a kakistocracy which has no contact with reality. So, they may attempt some conflict with China. If so, it will be Americans dying in large numbers from the outset, since there are no meaningful proxies available to do so.

The real and, excepting nuclear deterrent, remaining strength of the US military is its nuclear-powered submarine fleet. According to those who know these things (not me), that’s where the real expertise and power projection lie. So, in a shootout with China, the US has capability to either 1) keep Chinese navy in port or 2) do real damage to Chinese navy. However, the Chinese would still be able to mount an invasion of Taiwan and, once ashore, it’s all over.

At the moment there is no motivation whatever in the collective West to end the bloodshed in Ukraine.
The Western rulers have turned a deaf ear consistently to third countries (Tûrkiye, China)’ pushing for diplomacy.
In the West, only a handful of politicians are bold enough to advocate an immediate ceasefire and peace negociations. They receive little echo. Peace activism in the society is very limited to nonexistent. War propaganda is pervasive and working as a general deterrent and to put the (otherwise dissatisfied) citizens in line.
In Ukraine the few people in office who retained some degree of sanity are being disappeared.
Theoretically the Russian side would want to end this as soon as possible but sofar I don’t see they have got qualified officials to speak to.
Moreover, the military picture has not been decisive enough at this stage to make obvious to all that diplomacy is the only option left.

404 does not have enough forces to even break through the RFA defenses in the south but even if they did, they would lose so much that they would not be able to stay and hang on to whatever they temporarily occupied. Hence, they would be open to being annihilated by RFA forces waiting to be committed to battle.
However, I have reached the conclusion that this is the 404/NATO plan: knowing the above, NATO will get involved with Polish/Romanian forces and air support. To me, this is what someone like Nuland meant by “we have been war gaming the counter offensive for the last 4-5 months”. The only way they sent 404 into battle in the south is by knowing they will get involved. Otherwise, what would be the point, even sparrows on the trees know the counter offensive is doomed to failure.

Ukraine was operating powerful air-defence systems in the EASTERN part of Ukraine. Ukraine had a motive and the means. Ukraine should have been treated like a criminal suspect. According to the report Russia had no powerful air-defence systems in the eastern part of Ukraine and Dutch (military) intelligence had no indication of Russian intent to shoot down an airliner.
What happens next? A Joint Investigation Team is created to do the criminal investigation. The JIT includes Ukraine yet excludes Russia(!). Ukraine got influence over the “evidence” that could be used and how the investigation was conducted. The decision to include Ukraine in the JIT and exclude Russia had nothing to do with due process. It was a political decision. It was a political “investigation” and a political trial. Period.

The biggest proof of the irreversible defeat of Ukraine was the explosion of the dam. 1 / Khakiv offensive was well planned by RU – yes, by RU, they have evacuated all heavy machinery few weeks before it happened, they evacuated troops and prepared to make civilian evacuation without making too much fuss. In the end they retreated in order and inflicted heavy casualties on UKR forces while doing so.
What I think have really happened there is that RU have calculated that if UKR continues mobilizing and training new people, at some point they would simply gather 1 million or more men and in the end obtain such an numbers advantage like 10 to 1 or something that they could with large losses just swamp the small RU detachment and allied LDPR militias.
So, they calculated that they firstly need to bait them a bit and eliminate some of them now, and also use the “defeat” in order to get to a more serious war footing, which enabled them to do the draft and partial economy mobilization, which now allows them to have prepared troops for any NATO intervention, as well as great production capacities to be able to increase overall combat strength…

I don’t smell a knock-out blow of any making in the near future that would drive the parties to the negotiating table. And of course the likely “demands” you list that Russia might require to cease hostilities is far from anything Ukraine would agree to presently. I’m thinking economic changes, one way or the other, will come to play a bigger part in this conflict as time goes on. Did the US exit one expensive “forever” war to just stumble into yet another? Congress may tighten the purse strings. Also, I wouldn’t rule out a prolonged, severe world-wide recession that, among other things, sends crude oil prices lower, but also makes continuing material assistance to Ukraine untenable. In short, factors off the battle field will likely become more important as time goes by. For anyone that wants a straight forward military solution, time is not on their side.
