Gotta confess, I did not see this coming. Yes, I believed that Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky was miffed at not getting an invite to Saudi Arabia or to be part of the negotiating team, but it never entered my mind that he would kill himself in public. Suicide ain’t a good look. Zelensky reacted to Trump’s post by going after the Donald. Not a smart move.
While Zelensky did not put a loaded gun to his head and press the trigger, that may have been a better option than what he did — i.e., verbally attack and insult Donald Trump. If Trump truly was the King of the Realm, Zelensky would have arrived hogtied before Trump and the Donald would have cut his tongue out. Such were the pleasantries of the Middle Ages.
Here are a couple of Zelensky’s verbal tirades today criticizing Trump for excluding the Z-man from the negotiations:
Zelensky said Ukraine “did not know anything about” the meeting between Putin and Trump, and said his country will not accept a peace deal brokered without Ukrainian participation.
Zelensky told reporters he “would like Trump’s team to be more truthful” about the war and accused the president of living in a Russian-made “disinformation space.”
If Zelensky thinks that public criticism of Trump is a winning strategy to win over the Donald, he has not paid attention to Trump’s method of handling critics and opponents during the past ten years. While Zelensky enjoys the full support of the Washington neocons and those politicians who have been paid under the table by Ukraine, picking a fight with Trump guarantees that further aid to Ukraine is DOA (i.e., dead on arrival).
Trump has the memory of an elephant. He has not forgotten the role that Zelensky played in Trump’s first impeachment drama. Zelensky could have spoken out in defense of Trump at the time, but he chose to remain silent. Zelensky did not buy himself any good karma with Trump.
Then there is the matter of missing billions of US taxpayer dollars. Elon Musk, as well as some folks outside of DOGE, are auditing the more than $300 billion sent to Ukraine. I know from a close friend that $50 billion already has been tracked to bank accounts in the Caribbean. Sometime within the next month or two, the world will learn some specifics of Zelensky’s theft of some of these funds. When that happens, Zelensky is burnt toast.
Don’t be surprised in a few months when Attorney General Pam Bondi announces criminal indictments against Zelensky for theft of US government property. Assuming that Zelensky is not assassinated or jailed by disgruntled Ukrainian military officers, his chances of finding a safe haven outside of Ukraine will dim dramatically. Zelensky fails to understand that he is nothing more than a pawn in a Western-led game of global chess. He ain’t essential, he’s expendable.
It appears that Trump’s goal in reviving relations with Russia has little to do with Ukraine and its future. As a result of Tuesday’s meeting in Saudi Arabia between the US and Russian delegations, there was agreement on forming six working groups that will address the following issues:
- Group on Strategic Security and Arms Control. Arms control is one of the topics where dialogue between Moscow and Washington continues even in the crisis. The New START Treaty expires in 2026, and the United States is interested in extending it, but will try to impose new restrictions on Russian hypersonic weapons and tactical nuclear forces. Russia, in turn, will seek a revision of the balance of power, taking into account NATO’s non-expansion, and demand restrictions on the deployment of new missile systems in Europe.
- Group on the Review of the Global Security Architecture.
The issues of global security architecture, delimitation of spheres of influence, including possible mechanisms for monitoring developments in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and autonomous combat systems will be discussed separately. It is likely that this is the area where the contradictions will be most acute. Moreover, other significant powers, including China, will need to be involved in the process. - Group on bilateral diplomatic interaction.
Both sides are interested in the return of the embassies to full operation, within the framework of which mutual restrictions on the work of diplomatic missions will be lifted, and broad channels of communication will be established, including, in part, issues of economic ties. - Energy and Sanctions Group.
Russia is interested in lifting American sanctions, and the Americans will be offered some joint economic projects. However, the American side will try to link any concessions with demands concerning other areas, including Russian-Chinese relations, so a compromise will not be easy. Plus, Trump will be wary of accusations from hawks among the Republicans about the “excessive” easing of the sanctions regime. - Group for the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine.
Within its framework, the parameters of a peace agreement on Ukraine will be agreed upon. There is already agreement on a number of issues. Ukraine is a non-aligned state, the EU will not be an actor influencing the negotiations, elections will be held in Ukraine and then a full-fledged agreement will be concluded, which will be adopted by the UN, there will be no NATO troops on the territory of Ukraine. Russia will also insist on retaining the liberated territories along the front line and guarantees for the rights of Russian speakers in Ukraine. The full scope of the concessions that Washington is ready to make and their price are still unclear. - International Affairs Group (Middle East, Arctic).
The situation in the Middle East requires coordination of efforts by major players, including to prevent the Israeli-Palestinian truce from collapsing, to make a decision on the Syrian case, and others. Russia continues to actively interact with Turkey, Iran, and the Persian Gulf countries, which makes it an important participant in any negotiation processes in the region. Also on the agenda are issues of cooperation in the Arctic, where Russia maintains strategic superiority.
Ending the war in Ukraine is not necessarily a top priority. Trump’s team has made it clear that this is a problem for the Europeans and the Ukrainians to resolve if they are intent on continuing the war. Trump is looking at a bigger picture and keeping Zelensky happy is not part of that vision.

Suddenly, an unexpected honeymoon begins between the United States and Russia. Just a few days ago, the U.S. government, including almost the entire legislative branch, insulted and vilified Putin, calling him a dictator, criminal, and murderer. Things don’t happen by chance.

Zelensky suddenly went from being the ‘favorite’ of the U.S. establishment to becoming a pariah and a dangerous enemy to U.S. interests. Supposedly, he refused to sign a document where the U.S. government would take 50% of Ukraine’s mineral resources, including gas and oil, as well as control of Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea, in exchange for “security guarantees.”
In other words, the United States would seize the riches and ports of Ukraine and, in addition, would have to establish military bases in the country to protect “Ukraine’s security.” Thus, the old dream of Uncle Sam is fulfilled—not just having a port but seizing the Black Sea. This way, NATO troops would be on Russia’s borders, exactly what Russia wants to avoid with the war in Ukraine.
Watch out, Putin… they might deceive you again!
If the war between Russia and Ukraine is the consequence of NATO’s (the U.S.) decision to include Ukraine in this militaristic organization—because Russia sees that action as a severe existential threat—now that Russia is winning the war, the U.S. government takes the initiative to start peace negotiations with Russia and, in the process, improve relations between the two countries and bring them to levels of cooperation for the benefit of both.
Doesn’t all of this seem suspicious?

I like this method because it is well understood and understandable. Oil and gas will lose money if true climate science reveals that their product will cause global warming. Back then, I thought that Ukraine’s army would break by the end of the year. Due to a lack of imagination, it didn’t occur to me that the West’s support would extend to emptying its arsenals and treasuries to keep Ukraine fighting. In the event, they did, but (IMHO) we’ve come to the same place.

Trump took a look at identifying problems (which is always the first step in solving anything) and possible solutions. There are a lot of them. So many, in fact, It seems he decided that, in a lot of areas, it may be easier to salvage what he can and then burn them down and start over. He’s doing that domestically with DOGE shaking the trees to see how much money will fall out, while eliminating old structures and their occupants. Seems to have reached a similar conclusion with foreign policy.
He also seems serious about not being involved in wars unless absolutely necessary, and then only if he’s in a position to win. So he doesn’t want war with Russia in either Ukraine or Iran (or anywhere else). He doesn’t want war in Israel and is looking for options and ideas to keep the truce and, more importantly, trying to prevent more death and destruction for people there in the future.
Neither Zelensky or Bibi agree. Bibi will watch to see how Zelensky fares by resisting. Zelensky scrambled around, after being left out of the Saudi Arabia meeting, where most of the subjects addressed were way over his head anyway. Trump and Putin are looking at a much wider scope than just Ukraine. Fiirst Z went to UAE to sign an agreement allowing Ukraine ownership of assets in increased amounts. The US appears to have about 70k active duty military personnel stationed in Europe. Turkey has 884k troops. Unless and until the US wants to pull in troops from all over the world, Turkey has the largest military in NATO, and, while not part of Europe, they outgun the Europeon nations handily. Of the non-NATO countries in which the US has troops deployed, Japan and South Korea account for approx 79k out of 158k, Bahrain 3.4k, and all others 9.3k. So actually becoming the ‘biggest army’ in the Europeon theater would require moving almost a million troops from somewhere else- the US, if Japan and Korea are not to be evacuated. There are only 1.3 million active duty US troops globally, so, oops, I guess we have to strip the garrisons in Japan and Korea too until the reserves can be called up. I think it’s pretty clear that Trump is going the other way.

To understand the depth of the hole that the US has dug for itself, you need to understand the corruption of the educational system. I think there are several problems in the US-Russia agreement.
1st The US has proven in the recent past – especially Trump – that it always throws away the agreements it makes

Larry, I agree with everything you say about Zelensky. However, I think we should also remember how tragic a figure the guy is. He campaigned on a platform of peace with Russia, and actually successfully negotiated a peace treaty in the spring of 2022. However, the US and UK did not like the terms and told him to abandon the treaty. And he did, and that lead us to where we are today.
If he had just resigned and walked away, history would probably treat him as a man of honor. I do not know for a fact, but suspect that he was put in fear for his life and that of his family if he did not comply. And today he is still in fear for his life. Thus I believe he is a tragic figure, and (as much as it pains me to say it) should be pointed out as an example of what anyone should expect if they throw their lot in with the US.
A) Russia and the US are negotiating about what to negotiate, where to do it, when to do it, and who will do it. There are NO peace negotiations at this time and I expect it to be awhile before there are.
B) Please stop believing that Trump tells the truth as he sees it. He tells the truth as it serves his purposes, and his purposes in the tactical sense change as soon the words leave his mouth. The truth changes at the same time. He throws a grenade through the window and comes in hard through the wall. Or the roof. Or a different window. Pretty much never the door.
C) Trump (his backers) authentically want to rout the globalists and make radical changes to the way government and the economy operate. Not for the benefit of the masses, but for their own interests. They are still the weaker of the two major factions of the ruling class, especially the active deep state operatives. They are conducting a blitzkrieg that they hope will change the balance of structural power in their favor, and none of them care what Trump says as long as he gets the desired results.
D) The Kursk salient is now the Kursk Pocket, 25,000 Ukrainians trapped without supply and no way out. This is more meaningful in terms of projecting future political actions than anything the politicians say.
E) Trump’s bombast has the Europeons on the run. They believe he can and will follow through on his threats to leave them completely in the lurch. If they believe it, the rest of us should at least entertain the idea that they’re right. France has already pulled back from the ’emergency council,’ Poland has stated clearly, no Polish boots on the ground in Ukraine. Heads will roll soon.
F) There is no evidence whatsoever that Russia will agree to a ceasefire before it’s war aims are met. All of them. I don’t speak Russian, but even carefully reading the text of the Russian statements in English gives me a strong impression that they are simply trying to soothe the various groups of panicking pirates to reduce the chances of them doing something really stupid that will result in mass casualties that will dwarf those already caused in Ukraine and Palestine put together.
G) Tomorrow (as I write this) marks one month in office for DJT. I know it’s his own fault for saying he could stop the war on Day 1 in the White House, but nobody who gave it a moment’s thought believed that. So have a little patience. Try to understand what the process of reaching peace when your own side is full of greedy warmongers is like. It’s not straightforward, and it’s not instantaneous.

The incoming financial crisis will allow a reset of the wage structure, at the expense of the people who pursued maximum ROI, but it won’t change the fundamental mechanics of capitalism. Elon Musk, though, has some ideas about doing so- replacing capitalism with technofeudalism, in which money stops being the means of realizing profit, and become simply an accounting tool to manage production- and the people who carry out that production. In such a system, ‘profit’ is no longer the driving force of the new aristocracy. Concentration of political power and long-term stability move up the list of priorities considerably.
All business in order to exist must exploit labor. You cannot stay in business selling a good or service for the actual production cost. The variable is the degree of exploitation, and that is controlled by the balance of labor supply to demand.
