That’s right. After 6 months of war between Ukraine and Russia, the U.S. Embassy is now alarmed by the prospect of a possible Russian air assault on Kiev, Lviv and other large Ukrainian cities. Here is the “Security Alert“:
Ukraine Event:The Department of State has information that Russia is stepping up efforts to launch strikes against Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure and government facilities in the coming days. Russian strikes in Ukraine pose a continued threat to civilians and civilian infrastructure. The U.S. Embassy urges U.S. citizens to depart Ukraine now using privately available ground transportation options if it is safe to do so.
See additional safety information from a previous Security Alert below:
If you hear a loud explosion or if sirens are activated, immediately seek cover.
If in a home or a building, go to the lowest level of the structure with the fewest exterior walls, windows, and openings; close any doors and sit near an interior wall, away from any windows or openings. If you are outdoors, immediately seek cover in a hardened structure; if that is not possible, lie down and cover your head with your hands. Be aware that even if the incoming missile or drone is intercepted, falling debris represents a significant risk. After the attack, stay away from any debris, and monitor major news outlets for official guidance.
The security situation throughout Ukraine is highly volatile and conditions may deteriorate without warning. U.S. citizens should remain vigilant and take appropriate steps to increase their security awareness.
It is not clear what has sparked this heightened level of panic. Have Ukrainian and U.S. intelligence intercepted communications that the Russians are prepping airstrikes in response to the assassination of the Russian woman last week by alleged Ukrainian operatives or in retaliation for the artillery shelling of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant? Perhaps.
There are other possibilities. Russia is using deception, i.e. signalling major air strikes west of the Dnieper, while diverting the force of the Russian attack to another mission. Such as? There are now reports from the Russian Minister of Defense that the attack on Nikolaev is underway from the east and the north:
As a result of an offensive in Kherson-Nikolaev direction near Aleksandrovka, the Allied Forces have eliminated units of 28th Mechanized Brigade of AFU and reached the administrative border of Nikolaev Region. 36 square kilometres of Kherson Region have been liberated.
Komsomolskoye has been liberated, advancing 3 kilometres into the enemy defence in this direction. Territory of 12 square kilometres of Nikolaev Region has been liberated.
In addition, 35th Marine Brigade and 46th Aeromobile Brigade of AFU suffered significant losses near Andreevka. The enemy is dislodged from Blagodatovka and neighbouring populated areas.
Or is the United States and Ukraine feeding the false narrative of an impending attack in order to further tarnish Russia’s international reputation? We will know for sure by the end of the week.
If Russia does fulfill the AmEmbassy Kiev’s dire warning of impending doom, this will mark a watershed moment in Putin’s so-called “Special Military Operation.” Hitting Kiev and Lviv in force after months of giving them the kid glove treatment means the gloves are off and the Russian military is going to ratchet up the pain factor on all of Ukraine, not just the military units.
Ratcheting up the pain factor for the rest of Ukraine…couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch.
GOOD
Great
Not really, there is a hand full asshats in Kiev and various Nato capitals but the bulk of Ukrainians voted for Zaleski because he was for finding a peaceful solution. The Russians have been very sensitive to civilian casualties and they should continue that approach.
Take a leaf out the US playbook. Take out the CEO of a weapons company or a senior politician or general. A few drone strikes in the US and Brussels might cool down Western aggression
@RZ
A few drone strikes in the US might cool down Western aggression? You really believe that? Based on what? Wishful thinking? 9/11 would suggest otherwise.
This is my first time commenting here. I get that people on this blog are (probably) very pro-military and ya know..you do you, but please, at least be honest about the very real crimes against humanity the US military has perpetrated in many cases, even if you think overall they’re a force for good (or whatever, I personally don’t..)
From the below link:
“Newly obtained Pentagon documents show that US airstrikes have been marked by “deeply flawed intelligence” and resulted in thousands of civilian deaths in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, The New York Times reported on Saturday.
The documents show that many children were killed in the airstrikes.
“Not a single record provided includes a finding of wrongdoing or disciplinary action,” the paper reported.
According to the New York Times, fewer than a dozen condolence payments were made to victims and their families.
What did the report find?
In one case cited by the paper, US special forces claimed to have killed 85 “Islamic State” fighters in northern Syria. According to investigative reporting carried out by The New York Times, the dead were 120 villagers.
According to the report, a US strike cell known as Talon Anvil regularly sidestepped procedures meant to protect civilians in its bombing campaign against the “Islamic State.””

Force for good provides a perfect cover for the most evil and diabolical nation in the post-WWII era. Much of what you state should be ample proof. Please educate us if America has not killed more innocents than the rest of the world combined in that period.
We get it, you’re completely drunk of the Kool Aid the NY Crimes, uggh, I mean Times, is mainlining your IV with. You lot shouldn’t be called leftists, you should be called lemmings. Not one of you lot can ever display a shred of ability to critically think for yourselves. Straight up herd of incredibly easily led, groupthinking symbiotes
Which “bunch”? Putin’s smart enough to know that most UA citizens have had it with Ze and his Nazis, so he won’t punish civilians. The SMO is to “demilitarize and denazify”. So long as he sticks to that strategy he can be confident of local support. However, the “Ukies/SBU” have crossed the line assassinating a Russian inside Russia and will certainly be punished.
What an odd situation it is that the US government and the captive media are less credible than Putin and Russian sources.
I’m reminded of the story of allied POWs in German detention who would cheer every story of victory and counter attack by the Wehrmacht because they noticed that the successive battle locations were each closer and closer to Berlin. It must have rattled their guards to hear the cheers.
Did you mean to say the allied POWs would cheer every story of victory by the Soviets? And counter-attack by the Wehrmacht?
No Dan had it right. The propaganda is thick, so the Germans report new glorious victories and counteroffensives by the Wehrmacht. But each German “victory” is ever closer to Berlin. The POWs cheer because they can see through the lies to the reality that the fight is not going the Germans way.
It’s a very apt story, very similar to successful Ukrainian counter-offensives creeping ever closer to Kyiv.
I read that Russian POW’s wanted to be liberated by US soldiers.Stalin’s purges made everyone nervous.Given Biden and Lloyd Austin that would not be case today.
Stalin was not very happy with the initial Soviet soldier’s resistance to the German invasion. Millions were captured and refused to fight effectively. Stalin got tough and began to shoot them if they surrendered or retreated. However, those that were captured early had fears that they would not be welcomed back by Stalin—and they were not. Their anticipated fate was known to the Western Allies, but they returned the prisoners to the USSR anyway where they disappeared.
Yes, like the German soldiers captured at Stalingrad and elsewhere, of whom only about 5% survived captivity by the Soviets, the Russian POWs who were “liberated” from the Germans by the Red Army mostly were given back to Stalin by the western allies, in the infamous “Operation Keelhaul,” and were either executed or disappeared into the gulag, an almost guaranteed death sentence.
The forced “repatriations” included large numbers of Russians and Cossacks who had willingly worn German uniforms to fight Communist Russia, as they considered Germany the lesser of two evils, as well as at least 30,000 Cossack civilians and many Russian civilians who had migrated west to escape the advancing Red Army, many of them surrendering to American forces in Austria.
A good source of information about this disgraceful episode in American history, in which FDR, Dean Acheson, and Truman completely ignored and violated the Geneva Convention, is recounted here: https://reason.com/1974/11/01/totalitarianism/
With respect to the 91k soldiers of the German 6th Army who surrendered in early Feb. 1943 .. they were all in horrific, near death condition to start. So, even a simple march out of Stalingrad would cause ten of thousands of them to drop like flies. And simple lack of medical care caused tens of thousands more to die
Once the Germans arrived at their destination to work as slave laborers, it would behoove the Russian to care for them so that they could work. This happened to second cousin of my fathers. He was captured in the city of Koeningsburg (now Kalinigrad). He was put to slave labor for 10 years, and was released in 1955
My German cousin, Ludwig tells me his father was psychologically broken, yet lived to the end of the milenium. Of course, if your labors are needed, your body will be cared for, even as your mind is brutalized
Can’t speak for all Russian POW’s but my dad was in the merchant marine during WW2 and one of the last missions they had was repatriating Russian POW’s to Murmansk.
As he tells the story the POW’s were distraught and there were NKVD guards on board who were tasked from preventing escape attempts or suicide.
On reaching Murmansk POWs were offloaded and he said you could hear the machine gun fire as they were executed.
The crew was ordered to stay on board but my idiot father decided it would be a good idea to stretch his legs on the pier. He was immediately confronted by armed NKVD guards and was luck someone talked them out of arresting him or I’m sure I wouldn’t be writing this today.
I believe he was fortunate there were British witnesses and the Soviets didn’t need to explain what happened to a British merchant marine officer on a “humanitarian mission” to Murmansk.
My dad was an ozark (102nd Infantry Division, 407th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Battalion, Compay I) in WWII. I remember looking through his a book he had commemorating their accomplishments during their fight from the Rhine to the Elbe.
There was one picture that I still remember of the US troops on one side of the river with a banner unfurled that said something like “We welcome or Russian brother to the elbe.” Something like that. On the other side of the river was a German division that were about to be over run by the Russians. I can imagine nothing more demoralizing than to have the US army taunting the Krauts while behind them was their own private grim reaper knocking at the door.
The next pictures in the book were of US troops and Russian troops singing and drinking together on the eastern side of the Elbe. Truly fascinating tales father could tell when he could put aside the PTSD from that war. Artillery was in my fathers words “the most terrifying thing that a human can live through, if they live.”
BREAKING ODESSA:
A statement of the Odessa partisans was published stating that they, Ukrainian activists who went underground, “outlaw the current government of Kiev – the power of Bandera and the fascists.”
“We declare President Zelensky a usurper of power and a war criminal who plunged Ukraine into the chaos of war. We declare the officials of President Zelensky’s administration and regional administrations accomplices of the usurper.
Those who do not resign will be found and face severe punishment for crimes against the Ukrainian people. We declare the employees of the law enforcement agencies, the SBU as accomplices of the usurper.
Those who do not lay down their arms and go to the side of the Ukrainian people will be tracked down by us and will suffer a deserved punishment.
We declare military cargo and assembly areas of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and national battalions as legitimate targets that we will identify.
The coordinates of the identified targets will be taken into account during the denazification of Ukraine,” the text of the appeal specifically states, the authors of which appeal to the soldiers of the AFU to lay down their arms and also invite Ukrainians to join their ranks.
“We will give protection to all who follow our example. We do not want our beautiful city of Odessa to turn into ruins, like Mariupol. We ask for the bloodless overthrow of the anti-people government in the city, as happened in Kherson without destruction and shelling.
ODESSA update
A battalion created as part of the Russian troops from locals of Odessa, Nikolaev and Kherson regions is already coming to our regions help”, they summarize the partisans of Odessa..
RU High Security Council, just over ” a decision has been taken’ ..no more comment
TBC Special Duma Assembly meeting this Thursday 08/25but it may also be for something else than Declaration of war.
A large amount of long-range anti-aircraft systems, as well as full umbrellas of SHORAD systems are amassed in Belarus, all within range to cover Ukraine. Belarusian airfields show high activity of the Russian armed forces.
This suggests that Russia is preparing for a full-scale attack on Ukraine.
My two cents: something very big is in the …pipeline but not natgas for once
Please give us your source.
Please give us your source. Interesting…
Larry, do think it is possible that a couple the same US people who were involved with deconfliction with Russia in Syria are serving as some sort of level headed balance to avoid nuclear war? Like they are a back channel to similar and familiar minds in the Russian military? I mean no one except the most deranged neocons wants US diplomats to get lit up because that could cause things to spiral out of control quickly. Not saying the back channel info would consistently go to the political types in the US (or Russia, for that matter). In fact, it wouldn’t. Just some high placed professional military who can influence the course of events as needed. I’m assuming that someone like that must still exist at DIA or somewhere.
Tomorrow, the 24th, is Ukraine National Day (liberation from the USSR). According to Bloomberg, we’re going to hand over another 3 billion to Ukraine tomorrow.
After thinking about it for a bit, I’m wondering if the gal who killed Ms Dugin didn’t act completely on her own, getting even for what happened in Mariupol – would have been easier to slip through on her own with out any communications with confederates?
Well, I’m gonna have a whisky in a moment and will toast Gonzalo Lira and give him a prayer for a safe outcome for him however it happens.
Update: it seems very serious
State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin signed an order to hold an extraordinary meeting of the State Duma Council on August 25.
Maybe assassinating Darya Dugina was a bad idea, made Russia decide to take revenge by attacking cities or just playing with Ukraine’s and the West’s combined head. Getting the assassins is a certainty but most likely from the Russian point of view, it is not enough of a punishment.
At this point denazification of the entire Elensky regime is essential. Removing the regime from existence will force NATO to either colonise rump Ukranazistan directly or see it taken over by open nazis like Tyagnybok or Lyashko. The first is untenable without risking WWIII. The second is untenable as far as sending more help is concerned.
Russian Parliament is convening a special session this week to vote on declaring the Kiev regime a ‘terrorist state’. If adopted, this is an absolute game changer removing all restraint Russians have shown so far by not hitting the leadership and decision making centers. So the gloves may indeed be coming off.
I wager Russia will stick with the basic plan. They early on identified the Center of Gravity as, vaguely, Nazis. The plan was and will remain to attrite them… similar to Grant’s objective. Dugina’s killer is another Nazi, and she’ll be dealt with via another method. Secondly, given the increasing amount of military equipment and our grandchildren’s future tax debts poured into UKR, RUS will step up destruction of logistic nodes and links. Destruction of those nodes and links will force UKR to concentrate their military hardware in certain locations, providing RUS the opportunity to maximize destruction at minimal “cost”.
British Foreign Secretary and possible future Prime Minister Liz Tass said she was ready to use nuclear weapons if necessary.
Only losing side will make such an announcement, are you ready British , that’s our future .
Putin announces today that ‘NATO power centers’ will become legitimate targets’
https://twitter.com/FreireDeni/status/1562194766745710594?fbclid=IwAR3o3EeNpiaqT9p0Pfd6vyKqPSDcc-FSeP_gP_SGsYvzLU9_EbNf2e4BOgY
He announced that already shortly after the SMO, to warn off NATO from getting directly involved.
However: when does Russia determine that the flow of weapons no longer counts as indirect involvement?
That, if true, proves without doubt that Truss is a complete idiot.
Truss can pontificate and say what she likes, but Britain is a “has-been”, a tiny little insignificant irritation on the edge of Europe. The nuclear weapons stored in Britain cannot be fired without the consent of the US. A couple of Kinzhals fired from Russia would perhaps help to control the delirium in that little island.
God save us from Liz Truss. I write as someone who was a life long supporter of her now disgusting political party. As was my father. But never again.
My hunch is that we are going to see Kiev pack it in.
1. they really have nothing left.
2. Pretty soon Lyn Truss and the Republican leaders of Congress and Senate will realise that they need to come clean on Ukraine pdq or they will start to share the blame (for evil callousness in sending close to half a million to get killed or wounded after they knew the result after the first 10k).
By the same token Boris and Biden are better off blaming Zelensky for it all and spinning the situation for all they can than let someone else do it afterwards.
3. There is a lot of talk explaining why no settlement can be made now. Both sides say so, the west is promising more money and more weapons (but not delivering). The Kherson attack was promised and more to come though we know that is a lie.
So much talk of no deal suggests to me final negotiations, each side trying to look disinterested.
4. Why remove all Americans now, and why does Ze want to ban a big celebration of Nazism in Kiev? Because when they find out they will want to put Americans up on that lamppost alongside Ze. The US really has fxxxed Ukraine – much like it always did with the Kurds.
The real issue is HIMARS firing from deep into W Ukraine at Russian speakers. Ukraine IMO is already demilitarised, but not yet de-nazified (and I am thinking US special force nazis here as much as Ukrainian ones).
That requires some kind of guarantee (and acknowledgement of what Russia could threaten) by Biden’s puppeteers.
1) Ukraine is not demilitarized until Russian military “inspectors” gain free unfettered access to inspect any part of Ukrainian territory. So far, this is still a fight.
2) Zelensky is way already “slowly” being blamed, that is, “given a gentle little kick”, by the likes of Amnesty International (in their report that Zelensky is a threat to the lives of civilians) and CBS news (in their report about only 30% of the weapons making it to their actual soldiers) in order to get him to “shape up and stop losing to the Russians (while demanding billions of $$$ in the process)”. The US government already has easily has two nasty reports against Zelensky available for public consumption in the event they wish to actually / officially disown him and restart the regime change in Ukraine all over once again but with a “new” leader of the public…
3) Kiev does not have to “pack anything in” at the moment. NATO is low-balling its involvement in the Ukraine conflict by treating it as a source of money laundry / embezzlement (instead of going full-force there by sending its very own troops, air forces, battalions, etc… into there), with, in turn, Russia, also equally aware of this, also not sending in its own full major armies and forces as well. Neither side wants a larger engagement (NATO because it’s not worth that much to NATO, and Russia just because that would be more costly in general), so likewise there’s no “rush” for Kiev to really do anything either.
The “rush” comes from a) the incredible losses of Ukraine to date which sooner or later will be counted, b) the freedom Russia has to do whatever it wants now. We seem to be waiting for something to happen.
Not exactly — the “high losses” for Ukraine are not *yet* that deadly given its Ukraine still owns 80%+ of its territory (so, to this day it is still stocked fairly well with population and resources). Also Kiev is quite far removed from the action, and Russia isn’t exactly barging on its city doors either.
So, no “rush” at the moment. Later perhaps, but not at the tepid pace things are going on *now*. Also, the “freedom Russia has to do whatever it wants” is not a concern for NATO either unless Russia *actually* significantly “increases the pace” and perhaps do something very ambitious and brazen like quickly capturing Odessa and sealing off Ukraine’s entire coastline to the Mediterranean. But even with Russia’s somewhat freedom at this moment, it is still unlikely to actually really do anything that brash (which would certainly send a very large trigger to NATO to ramp up its own involvement as well).
Likewise, Russia’s “freedom” in other sectors like advancing its BRICS ambitions and any internal/external commercial/economic affairs is also not a “rush” trigger for the West either, as the West is clearly way more concerned with pushing and planning NWO rather than actually improving its own nations & economies to actually “compete” with anything / anybody else.
Pakistan has also ordered its embassy members to evac immediately.
Iirc, last week Intel Slava Z reported 400+ fighter planes & 300+ helicopters amassed in Russia near the Ukraine border.
It also reported expecting a large offensive within next 3-4 weeks.
And today reports of lots of military activity, movement of large weapons in Belarus near border.
AMCITS
Is this a term actually used within the US government for American citizens? Its so … neo-Soviet.
Yes. Been in use by State Department for more than 50 years. Shorthand for American Citizens.
It’s a creepy term. Like using the term “Homeland”, an alien word in the American context, to describe America. This kind of terminology may be part and parcel of today’s American state, but to me it shows how far we’ve come from 1776.
The modern US government and society is basically soviet at this point. Wall Street is the american Nomenklatura and FBI the KGB
How are they going to do that when they are all out of ammo, tanks, trucks, fuel and a million dead soldiers?
Rut row ! Our people so under estimated the Russian power and resolve.
Ukraine is on the ropes and punch drunk. The beating continues unabated.
Russia has stepped back a tad and is now going for a devastating display on how to knockout a 600,000 strong military .
It’s called the entertainment and power supremacy moment. So the next, “Bum of the Month,” gets a reality checkmate.
One transgender military unconscious on the canvass, who’s the next bum? Finland would be a nice quickie . Their Prime Minister could do the pre fight opener, ie the “crutch, thrust,” dance routine too get the crowd in the mood.LOL
A NATO trained Ukrainian military with well equipped ground forces bigger at the outset of the SMO than the combined armies of France, UK and Germany.
Yes indeedie, IAINW
China has been watching the SMO closer than the rest of us combined. As an arm chair General of note, my assessment is that China will go full animal from the get go. Land sea and air. ( I am not talking about attacking Taiwan either! )
It will be a “put up or shut up moment,” of historic proportions.
China has made it known there will never be another 100 years of shame. Putin has stated, without Russia there will be no world. Yes it has come to that, End of Empire or End of Time.
The age of thrives and brutal Imperialism is over.
I have no military experience, but the Russian strategy is quite obvious in my opinion. Pounding the opponent before the final assault and thus ending the war before the winter comes.
The next phase will, I have read a few times, probably involve regular Russian army formations.
And would that “phase” include the liberation of Odessa?
Denying black sea access to the remaining, if any, of the ukro-nazies is fundamental, to restore peaceful trade routes in this sea. Whatever remains of Ukraine is going to be a land-locked state. Complete supremacy in the black sea is an important strategical goal for russia.

Great article over at the Grayzone.
Thanks. More evidence. Great piece.
larry
what makes you think this corrupt money laundering scheme in ukraine is not a pipeline directly connected to washington politicians, lobbyists and select mic ceo’s?
it has been noted that 2 times in a nations existence when vast fortunes can be accumulated without much effort are at the start of a nation rise and even more so at the end just before it fails.
Yep, the invasion to Iraq and Afghanistan enriched all those pentagon / cia / fbi goons by billions of dollars. They were stealing hard cash by the pallets and by the entire planes. Hell, they did not even need to steal, the halliburtons and the cheneys of the world were making gazzilions by officially selling gasoline (and supplies) to pentagon at 10x to 100x the market rate. There is a reason why US has not won a single war, but spent trillions and trillions “trying”…
So, while dems are in power, they will keep this Uki gravy train going. Then reps will come to power and it will be their turn at the trough. And the CNNs and Wapos of the world. Well, for writing the total BS any 3-year old can see they get thrown some crumbs too.
Welcome to America, the land of endless opportunities!
Good stuff, thanks Malik!
It’s OVER! The rats are jumping off the ship. Kleptocracy is in overdrive. Read the article over at the Grayzone titled:
“Ukraine war veterans on how Kiev plundered US aid, wasted soldiers, endangered civilians, and lost the war.”
As recessionary pressures and inflation continue unabated and perhaps worsen, the realities will set in and there will be huge domestic level push-back to continued aid for Ukraine.
I have been away for two weeks. What ever happened to buntalaluca(?) Or what his/her name was. Clearly partial to the CCP but always has interesting and thoughtful comments
More Greyzone good stuff, here a hot video:
Dugin targeted as US-Ukraine shadow wars expand. It is very long, almost three hours.

Right, WHERE is buntalaluca??
Thoughtful comments indeed, just in need of proper punctuation.
Russia will never target civilian infrastructure. That would be too easy. They’d rather aimlessly grind on, losing thousands of young conscripts and material, and lose the war cut by cut, all the while, whining to the U.N. and the media about how unfairly those Ukrainians fight. Ridiculous.

“they created a powerful new Martyr for Russians. “
Not only.
“What criminals who ordered this assassination do not understand “
This is included in, but not restricted to, that which they do not understand.
“they lack human qualities”
They do not lack human qualities including ignorance and emotionalism, rendering them vulnerable to myriad strategies.
Resort to “emotionalism” is a self-indulgence best left to opponents.

“… the Russian military is going to ratchet up the pain factor on all of Ukraine, not just the military units.“
Wait. What? The Western MSM have told me for months that the cowardly, treacherous Russkies have been indiscriminately slaughtering innocents since day one.
The western MSM are not good at reading tea leaves. That is too tiresome and complicated.
They are good at putting lipstick on pigs. They are putting lipstick on a mortally wounded Ukrainian pig that is lying in the mud.
With respect to the 91k soldiers of the German 6th Army who surrendered in early Feb. 1943 .. they were all in horrific, near death condition to start. I don’t see any reason why the Russians would extend/expand their SMO since this is what the NATO and US wants.
The slow grinding of the Ukrainian forces, works well, for example yesterday around 1,000 Ukrainian soldiers met their maker. Of course pinpoint military agglomerations, or objectives should continue, as long they have enough fancy missiles on the production lines. As for regular shells they probably have enough for 1,000 years.
Unless they know something that we don’t.
So, most likely the US communique is a bluff, in the long list of deceptions and manipulations
