Full disclosure — Sy Hersh is an old friend in all senses of that expression. Our first meeting came in September 1981 when he accepted my invitation to speak to a group of Washington Semester students at the American University. During our introductory chat we discovered that we each had a son named Josh that was born that year. We stayed in touch over the years and Sy became my go to golf partner. He’s now approaching 86 years on this earth but hits the golf ball like a 60 year old. He also is a tennis fanatic. His talent as an athlete pales in comparison to his genius as an investigative journalist.
Sy also is living evidence of the degeneration of the field of investigative journalism. Ten years ago his latest piece would have been featured on the front page of the New Yorker Magazine or the New York Times. That is no longer the case. Sy is a pariah because he will not surrender to the Deep State coercion to lie in order to protect the corruption that is the foundation of Washington, DC and Wall Street.

Last June, the Navy divers, operating under the cover of a widely publicized mid-summer NATO exercise known as BALTOPS 22, planted the remotely triggered explosives that, three months later, destroyed three of the four Nord Stream pipelines, according to a source with direct knowledge of the operational planning. . . .
There was a vital bureaucratic reason for relying on the graduates of the center’s hardcore diving school in Panama City. The divers were Navy only, and not members of America’s Special Operations Command, whose covert operations must be reported to Congress and briefed in advance to the Senate and House leadership—the so-called Gang of Eight. The Biden Administration was doing everything possible to avoid leaks as the planning took place late in 2021 and into the first months of 2022.
I do not know if this article will ignite a firestorm in the United States, but it may light the fuse on a political explosion in Germany. The German people are now confronted with the question — are they the prison bitch of the United States? The Biden Administration’s decision to destroy the Nord Stream pipeline, apart from being an act of war against Russia, was a direct attack on the German economy and the German people. How many businesses have shuttered as a result of this attack? How many Germans died as a result of the economic downturn?
Thank God there are still men like Sy Hersh willing to tell uncomfortable truths. In this case the future of mankind is at stake and Sy’s latest revelation may help us steer clear of nuclear war.

A constitutional point: the right to declare war is reserved to Congress, is it not? What then is the legal status of unprovoked attacks on sovereign nations? Come to that, what is the practical wisdom of unprovoked attacks on sovereign nuclear-armed nations?
What will you wait for? That US will admit? Or that they will give you ship logs?

There is no additional proof needed but a silence from Sweden, Denmark and Germany.

Perfectly legal under the US Constitution. The President is the Commander in Chief, after all, so he can order the US Armed Forces into action.
But once that military action has been initiated (on his orders, as is right and proper under the Constitution) he must then seek a declaration of war from Congress.
He does not have Constitutional authority to continue that conflict without that declaration and (presumably, I don’t think this has ever happened) if the Congress said “No” then he has to order the Armed Forces to deconflict.
But all of that simply does not apply in this case: explosives were placed, and at 4am one morning those explosives were detonated.
The “military action” began and ended in that moment.
The President therefore had no need to seek a declaration of war, precisely because by the time the Congress-Critters were roused from their beds it was all over.
Where he would be in trouble (it’s possible, but doubtful) is in his failure to inform the Congress that a covert operation was being undertaken.
That’s not a Constitutional requirement, but he is violating a law and he is showing contempt for a co-equal branch of the US government by failing to keep them in the loop.
So maybe not a “high crime”, but arguably a “misdemeanor”. Good enough to get him impeached, I’d say.

Norway has made huge profits from the resulting soaring natural gas prices and became the primary supplier of gas to Europe, and opened a new pipeline the next day! Maybe Germany should solve its energy problems by sending troops back to Norway.
At the very least, Norway and the USA will get hit with civil lawsuits for billions of dollars in damages. Can’t go to trial as that would allow discovery subpoenas.
Post war Germany became a bye word for credibility. People liked dealing with Germans because they were seen as so honest just as their products were so genuinely high quality* and German business men could make excess profits because of that deserved reputation.
So it must have been tough for German businessmen to see their governments welch on their agreements on NS2 as Russia funded most of the $10bn or so construction costs. Much like the Wirecard fraud which was so untypical for Germans.
And now we find that Germany dithered on NS2 because of threats by USA.

Germany is the real puzzle in this tragic tale of violent stupidity by the bureaucrats who run the US.
The US/Norwegian act of war did very little to hurt Russia. Gas flowing through the system was already down to a minimal amount because the West was blocking repairs to compressors on NordStream 1 and Germany was refusing to issue permits for NS2 to start up.
The US/Norwegian act of war was really aimed at Germany, by denying Germany the option of settling independently with Russia. Germany has suffered from factories closing down because of the resulting high energy prices. German citizens have suffered high prices and unaffordable utility bills.
And the once-proud Germans have simply sat there and taken this US/Norwegian abuse. Why?
Because they are a colony.

The Hersh article describes complete complicity by Norway in destruction of the NS pipeline — from which Norway stood to benefit commercially.

The man does so at great cost to his business relationships, and brings the funds in a brief case via train to Robert in a NYC hotel room. Robert opens the door, talking on the phone, cord fully extended. Come on in, he says, throw it in here, as he opens the door to a coat closet. Heaped on the floor is a pile of similar leather bookcases….I trust Sy Hersh’s reporting to be mostly accurate.

This story, if validated, would constitute the clearest grounds for impeachment charges possible. Let’s assume that US Navy divers blew up NordStream 2 (which in my opinion they did). Does the US Congress care–a few in both the House and Senate sure do but not the majority so a subsequent impeachment is unlikely to result. Germany is cuckold to the US so it’s doubtful that the current German government would do more than voice a little symbolic outrage. The UN may voice a little symbolic condemnation as well but as an organization they’re useless at this point. We plebes can protest by not voting for any politician who supports the SMO but I’m kind of to the point where I don’t think voting matters much anymore–at least I don’t trust the results. Most of the EU and NATO would applaud if the US admitted responsibility for the attack…Poland already did.

There was no political will to stop any supplies to Europe, because filling the budget was a priority. As soon as the risks of supplies to NATO countries exceed the profitability, there will be an appropriate political decision of the government.
It is pointless to restore the Nord Stream in the conditions of the impending war with NATO countries.
I expect at some point pipelines in the Gulf of Mexico will mysteriously cease functioning. Perhaps big oil will just pull out of US waters as too risky. And I wonder about all the targeting of electric transformer stations in the US – US decrepit infrastructure needs only the littlest nudge to collapse – hack – bridge collapses are not even reported. If it keeps getting knocked – the next large solar storm could take down the US grid for months – the US political system would (IMO) not survive.

The more I read and think about Seymour Hersh’s story the more it troubles me. A few years back, when I had more time to do it justice, I wrote a few pieces on the alleged use of chemical weapons in the (dirty) war in Syria (you can still fine these on Medium.com under the name Adrian Kent if you’re interested).
I remember well when he posted about the 2017 Khan Sheikhoun alleged sarin attack. There was quite a kerfuffle when such an esteemed journalist published on a matter that some of us had also been diving deeply into for some time. His piece, in Die Welt, like his current NordStream piece leant heavily on the word of one or two anonymous sources. It involved one aspect of the KS story – that a Syrian jet had taken off on a specific mission over Khan Sheikhoun on the morning of the alleged attack. The Western narrative was that this sortie was out of the ordinary (this was probably true) and that it was carrying a sarin bomb that was dropped on a specific point in the town (this was bollocks).
Hersh, with logs of US-Russian communications, showed that the US knew all about the flight and it’s rationale (to attack an assembly of nasty jihadis).
The trouble was that certain aspects of his story – regarding the location & contents of the building attacked – by the Syrians were open to challenge – and Bellingcat duly downed-tools on their other shilly-projects and concentrated on doing so.
There were plenty of other, and to my mind much more significant, reasons why the Khan Sheikhoun CW narrative was hogwash – not least the fact that radar traces showed the plane flew absolutely nowhere near the alleged bomb-impact site and the flight paths and altitudes simply made such a hit impossible (the gymnastics the ludicrously slanted Joint Investigation Mechanism of the OPCW later went through to conclude that it was “reasonable” were quite extraordinary).
Now it seems that his Nordstream story may be doing the same thing. There are problems with his assessment of the legal machinations, the timings (the explosives could, and probably were, laid much later than he states) and the explosives themselves (we’d be talking huge amounts of work to get through the concrete that protects these pipelines – how much C4 are we talking about here?).
None of this is to say that the Americans didn’t do it (FWIW I’ve long ago concluded that they did) – but we have to be careful that the Hersh narrative doesn’t become THE alternative one here. When you google ‘Seymour Hersh Khan Sheikhoun’ now the top few stories are all of Bellingcat’s debunkings.
We’ve seen how this might play out already in the Ukraine conflict with the alleged Bucha massacre with Western ‘debunkings’ focussing on specific aspects of the counternarratives (the Mayor’s statements in that case) and banging away that those, declaring job done, and cynically ignoring plenty of the later pain-staking OSINT work done be others.
Sy had the Syria story right. I have first hand knowledge of that. Can’t say more.
I first became aware of Sy Hersh via a prophetic piece he wrote for the Newyorker around 2007 “The Redirection”, in which he suggested that after the problems the Israelis encountered with Hezbollah the previous year, the neocons would move to destabilise and regime change Syria.
Everything he said came to a pass, including getting Qatar and Saudi to bankroll the Jihadi terror campaign.
Real journalists are as rare as hen’s teeth these days. Almost all “journalists” are careerist box tickers for the deep state.

Why don’t the Russians pull the old bin Laden bounty trick. Offer $10 or 25 million for information leading to the conviction/uncovering of who blew up Nord Stream. Someone will go for the cash!
Sadly, Hersh’s reporting is not only being ignored in the main media, but is being second-guessed and *corrected* in the alternative blog media by commentators who are upset that their own lazy speculations weren’t confirmed.
All the pseudo-journalists In Europe who have passed tghe last four months without saying a word or moving a finger to do their job to investigate the sabotage of the NS pipelines ( which is an act of war that has destoeyed the German economy and by extension that of the EU…) are now removing earth and sky to try to find some dirty on Seymour Hersh…
This is the same people who have nothing against the dubious “democratic” procedure of the Zelensky regime, are blind to the obvious presence of nazis in relevant positions in Ukraine, and demonized and spread hatred against their nationals who did not want to take the Covid jab as if there was no tomorrow at twitter, press and TV…
It seems that they had to recur even to an old ex-girlfriend…
