Russia reports killing at least 1500 Ukrainian troops yesterday (Monday) and Ukraine has blown up a hydroelectric power plant and flooded areas of Kherson.

Ukraine or NATO has finally blown up the dam of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric power plant.
The purpose is:
Avoiding Russia invading the Odessa region after the Ukrainian offensive has already failed.
Bring NATO into the war by blaming Russia of an attack of humanitarian proportions.
Flood the southern left banks of the Dnepr River controlled by Russian forces.
End fresh water supply to Crimea.
However the flooding will also affect Kherson on the right bank of the River, now controlled by Ukraine.
But:
Russia evacuated the ethnic Russian populations on the right bank of the river in Kherson, months ago.
Russia also evacuated the ethnic Russian population on the left bank of the river, months ago.
Russia also shut down and evacuated the nuclear fuel from the Zaporizhia Nuclear power plant, months ago.
Russia began supplying and storing fresh water in Crimea (via the Kerch strait) almost a year ago.
Why did Russia retreat from Kherson and take all of the above mentioned precautions months ago?
Because back then, Ukraine was attacking the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Dam-Bridge, including the Antonovskiy Bridge, while Ethnic Russians was evacuated from Kherson via the bridge, into Easter Ukraine controlled by Russia.
Check out how many bridges there are across the southern part of the Dnepr River, and add the fact that Russia has not bombed any of them. Russia wants to use the bridges for an invasion into southern Ukraine to liberate the Ethnic Russians living there, and to block Ukraine its access to the Black sea.

The dam’s explosion will make it easier to cross the Dnieper when the waters recede. For any attack in the south. And it destroyed the first Russian defense lines like minefields. The islands were a lethal trap for Ukraine.

The Nova Kakhovka Dam was built in 1956, during the Soviet Era. In the 1980s, their successors built the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, Europe’s largest atomic power station, which has posed a particular risk as it lies in the line of fire.
Guess we will find out if blowing up the dam will take away Russia’s ability to supply sufficient water to cool the nuclear reactors.

We are hearing that record high waters took down a dam that was already damaged, having been the target of shelling off-and-on by the Ukrainians since the war began.

I can’t vouch for any of this, but I “heard” that the Dnieper river was in flood, from spring melt water and that the dam was experiencing very high water and that the section of the dam that was destroyed was the upper “parapet” section:

Which could be good news, in that most of the dam is still intact beneath the surface. If that is true, then the downstream flooding will not be the entire reservoir, but just the water retained by the parapet.
Anyway, for what it is worth, just hoping for good news here (hopium) verses a completely catastrophe.
I was about to write about reports of water accumulation by Ukraine in previous months (there were some videos). They have been preparing for something. Now I read that they are letting more water from upstream, in order to damage the dam as much as possible (which I was not able to verify yet).
On today’s video of the dam, it looks like the water is running over the lower part of it, and not just straight trough. How much of the bottom part will survive is anyone’s guess.

Ben Hodges, a former commander of US Army Europe, stated in an interview with the Washington Post that he does not believe NATO can defeat Russia in Europe.
Hodges believes that NATO would be too weak, slow and feckless to be able to stop Russia from invading Europe if they chose to do so.
“Being faster than the Russians to get to a critical place is the only metric that matters for effective deterrence, and we still can’t do that,” Hodges said. “Military mobility is still a problem. It is better than it was five years ago, but that’s not the metric that matters.”
Hodges said that even if the troops were completely prepared, NATO would be unable to get the heavy equipment in place needed for troops to repel Russian forces. Europe lacks the infrastructure, such as tunnels and bridges, for armored vehicles to be transported fast enough by NATO for Europe to adequately stand up against theoretical Russian aggression.

I was speculating, what would it take to change that? Two scenarios come to mind. It’s summer. Get a few of those Poseidon nuclear torpedo things racing up and down the East and West coast of the US, maybe leaping out of the water now and then with a big splash. Simultaneously, get a few of those perpetual nuclear powered cruise missles traveling in lazy loops near USA airspace, just flirting with the edge.
