Being interviewed by Judge Napolitano is a treat. It is really not an interview. We are just two friends discussing the craziness in the world today and trying to keep a sense of humor about it all.
Let me follow up on my earlier comments on Evan Gershkovich. The reason the CIA does not use an American citizen employed by a U.S. based newspaper is that it is so goddamn obvious that such a person would be presumed to be a spy that he or she is not useful in gathering important information. While there are some certifiable incompetents at the CIA, I do not believe that my old employer has abandoned all tradecraft. What do I mean? The CIA would want to recruit someone who would never, ever be considered a possible spy for the United States. Got it? Mr. Gershkovich does not fit that profile.
In light of new information that has emerged about the terrorist attack on Vladlen Tatarsky about the actions of the woman who “gifted” him the bomb disguised as a bust, I believe she knew exactly what was inside. That is why she did not stick around to continue to cultivate her access to Tatarsky. She should fry.
How many Russians have the US Feds arrested in the last year, might be tit for tat or leverage, why would Blinken call Lavrov? Curious grasshoppers want to know
Yep. This guy is a get-a-Russian-out-of-US-jail card. Blinken called Lavrov to see if he has anyone else to offer, or at least to make this guy declare as LGBTP.
Not to quibble, but the argument that the CIA would not use an obvious tool is yet again a solid argument as to why they would use a journalist.
Circles within circles. I read Spy-vs-Spy in Mad Magazine.
Russians don’t care if he was CIA asset, or a freelancer, of if he just took the wrong turn at Albuquerque. He was caught doing something he shouldn’t. That’s it.
I’ve heard that US is arresting Russian citizens just because they can. I don’t know if that’s true or not, but attacking Russians for this is laughable, especially considering that they in an effing war with the whole of the “Collective West”.
LARRY.look around,Does anything in America fit any profile?
“Gradually, gradually then suddenly.” Perhaps we are witnessing the beginning of the sudden phase of the collapse of the Western Empire.
Yes. U.S. is taking a real beating as China and Russia have joined forces to bring peace where the U.S. has provoked war.
Larry, maybe you could do an article/post on the following. I think it’s relevant, at least for widening the perspective.
The Old World Order Is About To Collapse – Peter Zeihan
Summary:
“The world is changing faster than ever, and a lot of the countries, dynamics, peace treaties and structures we’re familiar with may be about to come to an end. Peter’s job consists of him analysing data from geography, demographics, and global politics to understand economic trends and make predictions. And if his predictions are correct, the next 50 years are going to look incredibly different.
Expect to learn why China will lose half of it’s population by 2050, why globalisation is coming to an end even though we’re more connected than ever, why population demographics are one of the most important factors in determining the future, whether automation will help or hinder us, whether food shortages are actually something to panic about and much more…”

Larry, I don’t know if you are familiar with US Navy Rear Admiral Philip Yu; he was the Defense Attaché to both Beijing and Moscow in the very recent past and is the senior Navy Attaché. Great man and very wise – when he speaks about Geopolitical matters, everyone listens. At the 2021 Joint Attaché Conference, he was the closing speaker. He finished by saying the thing that kept him awake at night was the possibility of a Russo-Chinese economic and/or military alliance, be it formal or de-facto. I imagine these days he has grown addicted to Ny-Quil…

I like the way you put this, Larry. While I’m partial to the Putin government, that of Xi Jingpin makes me decidedly uneasy; official permission to worship God doesn’t square with my notion of reasonable governance, ditto the appointment of Catholic bishops by fiat from the ruling political party. That said, what sentient person doesn’t understand that Moscow and Beijing are working for peace and order while Washington is going about the world warmongering?
@ Jack Gordon. I am not an English speaker. I use machine translation to read the site. I think you should read this:
https://www.ncregister.com/cna/analysis-the-diplomatic-principles-behind-the-vatican-s-agreement-with-china
I quote from the link: ” … Cardinal Tagle noted that “the intervention of civil authorities in the bishops’ choices has manifested itself several times and in various forms throughout history. Even in the Philippines, my country, the rules of the ‘Patronato Real’ were in force for a long time, with which the organization of the Church was subjected to the Spanish royal power. Even St. Francis Xavier and the Jesuits conducted their mission in India under the patronage of the Portuguese crown.”, and what is written under the subtitle: “Negotiations with Hungary in the 1960s”.
The Vatican and the Pope did not invent anything.
Use the automatic translation and learn how the relations between the Pope and the King of Portugal worked.

One still needs official permission to worship, and this is permitted only within very strict boundaries overseen by the Party. The Holy Bible is currently being “revised” to better reflect the needs and realities of the Chinese people (not an exact quote but close)
While I am very favorably disposed toward the Russian government I am dismayed that it has been pushed towards an alliance with an authoritarian government like China. It is understandable but worrisome for religious minorities. Such is the fruit of our detestable foreign policy over the past 30 years.
Credenda, I live in China and have travelled extensively around the country. From a Catholic Church in the middle-of-nowhere Inner Mongolia, to Chengdu, to Shanghai I have seen Chinese freely practicing that religion. If you have a link to your claim that “Xi Jingpin makes me decidedly uneasy; official permission to worship God doesn’t square with my notion of reasonable governance”, kindly do provide it.

One propaganda angle of these bombings is that they are blamed on Putin – as in Putin is killing his political opponents. My idiot old school Republican/conservative friends are already saying that about this most recent terrorist bomb attack.
I still that Gershkovich was arrested by some stupid, heavy handed, local authorities, acting without consulting Moscow, exercising an abundance of caution and seeking to understand what Russian citizens in their jurisdiction might be leaking information against the security interests of their country. Moscow would have been smarter – supply disinformation and work him under the guise of being disgruntled citizens of a Putin regime.
So you think FSB is stupid, heavy handed, local ?
Well I think you have little more to add
Newdill thinks and says a lot of fanciful remarks. 100 years ago one would attribute that to opium; now it’s meth.
At least this time he kept his racism in check.
I definitely can see Ned Price saying the Russians will never suspect a journalist of spying,it’s too obvious.
….says the schizoid personality who thinks dead children at Newtown were a hoax and who believes the Holocaust is a Jewish hoax.
And still you take the cake in the mental health ward. All the cakes.
Ah, the Hollowhoax, the gift that keeps on giving.
And don’t the mindless morons lap it up, along with lampshades made from the skin of dead jews, the knife sharpeners on site at executions, and the magical (pre-used) number 6,000,000,000.
grr,
Excellent comment, Rapier sharp wit. But Newdill is a glutton for punishment.
The “I know you are but what am I” retort was lame even in 2nd grade.
OK. Then the alternative is that Moscow was in the loop and made the decision to arrest the reporter so that Putin come along later and look like the nice guy by ordering his release.
Someone in this little play is stupid and heavy handed – and that someone is also Russian
I like my alternative better….that the WSJ purposely sent him on a suicide mission to gain neocon brownie points.
All that the WSJ needs to do to gain neocon brownie points is to continue to print some neocon approved BS from un-named sources. Why bother sending a journalist to Russia when you can make up stuff from home? What if the journalist discovered that Russia is producing 100 tanks a day? They’d simply kill that story and revert to the usual nonsense. So no need to send a journalist. There’s no percentage in it.
What you have failed to comprehend in your emotional knee-jerk defense of your beloved Russian agencies is that it represents piss poor tradecraft to arrest the guy, even if he is a spy (which I doubt for the reasons LJ offers). The arrest looks bad to the world too. Good tradecraft would be to follow the journalist around and learn who his contacts are and to insert operatives as contacts and feed him false info.
Once again we learn that the Russians are mere humans that make mistakes. Sorry if that offends your naive perception of them as 5D super-humans. A lot of people here need to grow up and get real.
EN, what makes you think the FSB didn’t ALREADY follow him around and learn who his contacts were and once they had, decided to arrest him? I wish you (and your detractors) would stop the unkind remarks to those who disagree with you. This blog should be better than that. If someone disagrees with your views, don’t be rude to them. Just bite your tongue, perhaps think from their perspective, you might learn something.
Not completely unsound advice re; my detractors. You’re right. Maybe Newtown and the Holocaust were hoaxes and maybe the US is the most evil government that ever existed, bringing nothing but horror to the world, and Russia and China are staffed by the most superior examples of humanity that ever walked the earth and there will be a utopia once the US is erased. Yes, indeed, their perspective most certainly has some merit. Everything in life is Manichean/all or nothing, black/white – you’re either 100% for us or 100% against us.
That said, I doubt your suggestion is valid because it lacks 1. as far we know, the arrest of associated others in Russia and 2. The planted false info aspect
Your detractors are enjoying your mental breakdown while you empire is collapsing. May God give you long life, to see it all.
You are right!
Putin is killing everybody… Including Martin Luther King, Mahatma Gandhi and JFK.. Someone told me that he is also responsible for the death of John Lennon!!!!!!!
According to anonymous reliable (MSM) sources, he was also involved with the death of Abraham Lincoln in 1865… I believe it and I believe YOU!!!
I have also a stupid conservative friend who says there are only two genders!!!
LOL
We all know there are ( AT LEAST) 1984 official genders!!!! We are drowning in russian ( and CCP) disinformation!!!!!!!!
The US currently is holding somewhere between 100-350 Russian citizens in US prisons. It is hard to find out the exact number, but it is a lot. I think most have been convicted of cyber or financial crimes. Some have been illegally extradited. I have real doubts about whether their trials were fair.
I don’t think it has been widely reported in the West, but Russia has also arrested two Russian citizens in the last day or so for spying in the same area as Gershkovich. There has been some speculation that these events might be connected, but nothing that has been made public would suggest it.
If you read the Russian law that Gershkovich has been charged of violating, there is nothing to suggest that it would have to be working for an intelligence agency to be tried under the Russian espionage law. You did not mention that Julian Assange, who is also a journalist, has been charged under the US espionage act of 1917. I can assure you that Gershkovich will get a much more transparent and fair trial than Assange can hope to get.
I believe that Gershkovich could be charged under some other Russian laws, and maybe this will still happen.
I think that the exchange of Griner for Bout was a one time deal. I am not at all convinced that Russia wants to play this game. Assuming that Gershkovich is convicted – and that depends on how good a case the prosecutor can make – I suspect that he may be looking at a rather long prison sentence. I don’t see Russia trying to exchange Paul Whelan, and I think the case against Gershkovich may well be stronger. Time will tell.
I have read a report on Russian telegram he was caught red handed placing a device typical of the NSA, not CIA.
It will all come out soon enough.
Direct witness testimony by a Vedomosti journalist and friend of Gershkovich, Vladislav Postnikov, indicates Gershkovich was warned by his colleague that what he was doing would be interpreted by the Russian government as potentially criminal. Gershkovich ignored the warning.
Postnikov’s evidence is that Gershkovich was attempting to collect information on the Wagner military group’s recruitment and other operations related to combat in the Donbass; and on the military production units of Uralvagonzavod (UVZ), based in Sverdlovsk region; this state-owned company has been sanctioned by the US since 2014. It is the leading producer of the Russian Army’s T-90 and Armata main battle tanks.
In May 2022, a US White House press release announced “as a result of our export controls, Russia is struggling to replenish its military weapons and equipment. Russia’s two major tank plants – Uralvagonzavod Corporation and Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant – have halted work due to lack of foreign components.” Gershkovich was following up, investigating classified military operations at Uralvagonavod.
Another regional source, a Sverdlovsk Duma deputy, has told the Russian press Gershkovich asked him technical questions about another military-industrial company in the region, including questions like how many personnel were working there, on how many shifts, and on what product lines. The deputy, Vyacheslav Wegner, refused to answer him, explaining the information was classified and he was not authorized to say. Gershkovich pressed on; so did the Federal Security Service (FSB).
If Gershkovich had been a Russian reporter in the US, the US espionage law which would apply to what he was doing in Yekaterinburg is 18 United States Code Section 793. The wording of the sections of this law come from the original US Espionage Act of 1917. Since then, the US Supreme Court has regularly and consistently ruled that actions identified in the statute cannot be defended as the exercise of free speech or protected press freedom under the First Amendment of the US Constitution. As recently as 1988, a Navy intelligence analyst, Samuel Morison, was convicted under Section 793 of sending classified US satellite photographs of a Soviet aircraft carrier under construction at Severomorsk to Jane’s Defence Weekly, a London publication for which Morison worked part-time. The court ruled the action was not protected by press privilege.
How about an exchange of Assange and Gershkovich? Perfect!
Larry – Darya Trepova (aka Nastya, Anastasia), who “gifted” Vladlen the bomb disguised as his bust, stuck around – in the below article embedded the video of the last moments. Just scroll to the middle of the article – the tall blond woman with long hair. Vladlen offered her to sit right in front, but she took a seat on a side. I don’t believe she would stay on at all if she knew it was a bomb. Who can predict such things? Below is the video of the explosion (embedded in the article) where Trepova cups her hand over her mouth in shock, when the bomb goes off. I read she had a concussion. Her actions after the explosion were irrational and panicky. I read somewhere she thought it was a listening device in this bust.
https://iz.ru/1493357/2023-04-04/fontanka-soobshchila-o-trepovoi-statuetke-s-bomboi-ot-taksista-v-moskve
Video of Trepova when she’s leaving the cafe right after the explosion.
https://iz.ru/1493033/video/kadry-ukhoda-trepovoi-srazu-posle-vzryva-v-kafe-v-peterburge
Thanks. I was told she left. If she stayed then that bolsters her story that she did not know there was a bomb.
In the video I watched, she stayed and sat down a few feet away looking at him and the bomb. Hardly the behaviour of someone waiting for a bomb to go off.
At one point, Vladlen lifted the statue and she raised her arms in a defensive position, hardly the behaviour of an innocent person. She was asked to sit near the victim, by the victim who had met her at a previous event. She could hardly refuse and alert the group that something was up. The bomb was set off remotely, she couldn’t have carried a tilt switch bomb through the streets to the event. She left the building after the bombing, and used 6 different taxis before turning up to a friends apartment where she cut off her hair and changed clothing.
There are a lot of video’s, Vladlens body ended up where she first sat after gifting him the statue, which would have shielded her from the blast, if she was still sitting there when the bomb detonated. Trepova’s husband is on the run living in Georgia, both of them are strongly connected to Navalny group.
I saw that footage, she advances her hands in fear as Tatarsky manipulates the statuette carelessly, as if it would be of Chinese porcelaine and she would fear he could break it down….
It was remote detonation…….you know like suicide vests are remote-detonation.
Maybe she was stupid enough to believe the “detonator” would not send the kill signal if she was there ?
It was said the package had been confiscated by security but that she retrieved it
Her body language shows distress. Covering face with hands is instinctive movement.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfXTcrxgNxY
She stayed and on the video you see she instinctively outstretched both arms with palms upright towards him as if pleading with him not to ‘disturb’ the object………..it was instinctive……..she was sitting to his left…….his body protected her from the blast
she went to the back of the room. She knew the size of the bomb.
Does the CIA still question US citizens who have recently visited and returned from areas of interest?
The lesson here is to beware of women bearing busts in public.
that is hillarious!
Larry, I sincerely respect your experience and willingness to speak out from the perspective of a real patriot.
As far as the Gershk goes and his ties to intel, or not. Let me offer a counter argument.
There are many alphabet agencies. There are political actors and sycophants in all of them. There are many who could have recruited the Gershk, who doesn’t come off as particularly bright, to play at intel gathering. Could be stupidity all around – ‘hiding in plain sight, amateur tradecraft by a conniving Sched Cs or FES ‘wanna-be’ to get ‘noticed’ for future promotion. Could be a set-up, a provocation to sacrifice a willing fool to inflame the domestic audience. Who knows , who will ever know?
Tradecraft is tactics. And tactics is the most basic level of military engagement. Beyond tactics is operational arts, which is the coordination, combination of all forces to advance strategic goals. Strategy is the overall direction of achieving the Political goal of total engagement.
You’ve noted that even in the 1980s tradecraft generating source information was passed on to first level operations to assess and coordinate to feed up the chain to deciders of strategic goals – which they did. However that info was ignored by in-agency political actors who passed on what they surmised the directing political actors wanted to hear, regardless of the on the ground information, thus subverting the process. Do you think that is any better today, or worse?
As far as strategy, the rebounding sanctions and exposing the hollowness of the ‘wunderwaffen’ and lack of production capacity – is there really any strategy? Was there ever? Where is Obergruppenfuhrer Steiner?
Example, Hersh has inside contacts opposed to the actions of the political deciders that fed him the info for his all but ignored in the US Nord Stream story. They did this because the process failed, was subverted by the agency political actors and possibly they thought the truth was important to get out for a variety of reasons.
Recently read an excerpt of a recent Hersh interview that he thinks that the “Gilligan’s Island “ yacht attack story may be a plant by similar contacts to show through it’s mind-blowing stupidity the truth of Hersh’s original contacts explanation. Yeah, the ‘Minnow’ hypothesis is pretty stupid. Maybe, but the mind-blowing stupidity is a modern hallmark of the empty suit political actors in office. They may really think that the world is that stupid. Doesn’t matter, those who can reason and possess discernment see thru the nonsense. BRICS, anyone?
Don’t understand you continued insistence that there is nothing to see here with the Gershk. Sure looks like a fish, swims like a fish…. Note: none of this is in opposition to your position that there still are responsible actors in your profession. Undoubtedly,(refer back to Hersh’s sources). Are they running things, is their input even considered?
I wonder if Tatarsky knew his killer. Regardless, it would be hard to refuse a gesture of honor.
I heard some disturbing news or speculation in the wake of Finland joining NATO. Zelensky supposedly generously invited Poland to enter western Ukraine and enjoy a borderless existence with Ukraine. What happens if Poland comes in? NATO seems to be vigorously baiting Russia to attack something in NATO. The West is pushing, pushing Russia. Frankly. if world war happens, the West will deserve every bomb. Peace and co-operation are or were a way to economic prosperity. The US and Britain are cutting their own throats and self-destructing. We are warmongers. The American people do not want war, but they are powerless, so far, to do anything about it. Keep pounding out the information. Maybe there are many more people who are awake than I think.
She did sit in the audience after he asked her. If she refused, he would have known that something is wrong. He did not expect a “sucide bomber”.
Recent Russian military activity in Belarus is preparation for “Poland going all in”, and is acting as a deterrent. Since Russians have already killed bunch of Polish “volunteers”, one could say that Poland is already in to some extent.
Supposedly Russia already attacked NATO when it destroyed a deep underground bunker several weeks ago in far Western Ukraine that was staffed by scores, if not hundreds, of senior NATO officers (running Ukraine’s drone missions). The US/NATO reply (childish) was to send up a strategic US bomber capable of carrying nukes headed straight for Russian territory before turning around as it got close.
You mean the CIA did not work this way when you were part of the CIA.
Also, when you were part of the CIA your media weren’t all but officially a part of your military industrial complex.
And there is nothing to stop the CIA from using a “journalist” as a preliminary probe to discover weak points that can be exploited by other agents later.
Or for that matter Gershkovich being used by one of your non CIA “intelligence” agencies (of which there are how many? It used to be 17.)
So I don’t see how you can say that the CIA does still not work that way.
In fact the more you try to explain your Gershkovich position the deeper you’re digging yourself into a hole.
I suggest you stop doing that and see what evidence the Russian prosecution presents.
Because all you’re doing now is looking like a partisan defender for Gershkovich, who most of us have no doubt was a spy.
No, still that way. Stop making up “facts” that you have no evidence for. You clearly have never run informants. What you are describing is just plain ignorant.
What bothers me is that you repeat the nonsense of “17 intelligence agencies.” There are only two intelligence agencies that recruit and run spies — the CIA and DIA. Period. Only the NSA produces electronic intercepts. NRO does satellites. All of the “other” agencies are consumers of original intl produced by CIA, DIA, NSA and NRO. Got it?
How is it possible for a professional Journalist to engage in such risky actions with no guaranties nor backing ? The guy was baited one way or another.
It might not be an American intel agency , Russia should be a spy nest right now … Mossad , BND , MI-6 , ABW , DGSE , SBU … the list of employer offering necessary guaranties is long.
It is also possible the bait was shaken by Russian agency themselves , that would explain a lot.
In any cases , engaging in illegals activities when all the nation is looking for spies is a reckless and stupid behavior. It’s like trying to sell crack to a cop in uniform cause your six year old sister stated she want to be the best lawyer…
Larry have you thought that the bomb was not due to go off until he was in his car and it was set off intentionally to eliminate any loose ends, IE the bomber, She may have thought or have been told that it would go off later and she would be safe. I don’t believe she didn’t know that she was working for Ukraine against Russia
She had a getaway plan prepared, and set in motion. What we don’t know is, if she was supposed to get away before the explosion, or die in it (unknowingly). She tried to get out right after giving the statue, but he asked her to sit in the crowd.
Guys, hate to take away from this interview but here’s another interview regarding China, a different take by Peter Zeihan. What do y’alls think?
The Old World Order Is About To Collapse – Peter Zeihan
Summary:
“The world is changing faster than ever, and a lot of the countries, dynamics, peace treaties and structures we’re familiar with may be about to come to an end. Peter’s job consists of him analysing data from geography, demographics, and global politics to understand economic trends and make predictions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRT7P-VKM0k
Zeihan is a fraud. A certifiable moron.
Sorry to hear that – do you mind explaining why?
I have promoted his book as a good explanation on maritime trade, insurance, resources and food. Personally, I think he seriously overblows USA, has Russia quite wrong and maybe overplays Chinese demographic dissolution, even remembering that their budget for internal security is 5 times that for defence.
You can do anything with statistical analysis and percentages.
34% of political scientist will tell you that.
58% if you pay them!
Larry, please do not print this comment. I just wanted to say that it is out of character for you to use the Lord’s Name in vain. As you know, God and Jesus are not to blame for the troubles in the world, but men (i.e. people) are, full stop. So please, for the sake of your own inner peace, do not worry about all those people not understanding your point about the reporter who got arrested. Many of us do understand the point you were making, and the others are obviously quite distrustful about all things governmental, especially the IC agencies. Don’t let ’em get to you, my friend. Go pet your dogs, breathe, keep thick skin with a soft interior, and by all means, keep writing accurate views on the happenings in this evil world. Thanks.
How did I use the Lord’s name in vain?
“As you know, God and Jesus are not to blame for the troubles in the world, but men (i.e. people) are, full stop.”
It’s not like God is omnipotent, or anything along those lines. You should visit child cancer ward, and tell those kids that it’s all their fault.
Gershkovich is from a Jewish family that left the Soviet Union in 1979 (Gershkovich himself was born in 1991), and he has worked in Russia for six years. In short, he’s in a very small and highly competitive niche. Simply being a Jewish American in Russia isn’t enough to earn fame and fortune, and it’s a struggle to become and stay relevant….
I would have guessed that Gershovich’s arrest would be the biggest dose of publicity in his life, but that’s apparently not the case. Like almost everyone else reporting on a Russia/Ukraine related topic, his biggest break in recent history was the breakout of direct fighting in February/early March, with search queries for his name peaking in May 2022. Since then, he’s struggled to stay relevant.
https://readingjunkie.com/2023/03/31/evan-gershkovich-a-weird-espionage-story-from-russia/
“Gershkovich is from a Jewish family that left the Soviet Union in 1979…” Is that why he was poking his nose where he is not supposed to? Did he work extra for MoSSad perchance?
He was foolish enough to chase that story. He wanted to make a name for himself.
Maybe he thought that he was American jew who had Russian roots he was untouchable and was above the law.
He was warned by Russian MP and by fellow russian journalist not to go to that particular military factory.
Foreign ministry spokeswoman was saying they caught him red handed I tend to believe it.
Now that is an interesting thought. MOSSAD relies on Sayanim from the world wide jewish diaspora; regardless of citizenship a Jew is an Israhell firster.
The help can be from as little as supplying a vehicle, accommodation, information, anything required actually.
if it’s so obvious a Journalist wouldn’t be a spy for some abstract reason, then woundn’t that make a journaist good spy material because it would be ridiculous to suspect him?
Maybe the journalist is suspected of being a spy simply on actual behaviour, and not suppositions of what’s going thru the minds of those who organise the spying.
What I find amazing is that all of the top US foreign policy journals, Foreign Policy, Foreign Affairs Magazine, National Interest, etc, where supposedly our best FP scholars ans experts publish, all seem to be oblivious to what is going on. If you peruse the titles they are all about Climate Change, China being in bad shape, Blinken needing to take advantage of the Ukraine war to push US interests in the Stans, banning TikTok, etc. There is a 4 alarm fire taking place right now and they all seem to be absolutely oblivious. If this is all Biden & Blinken are reading, God help the United States. At what point will articles appear that address this? Or will it be never?
It’s shocking – though perhaps unsurprising – how little condemnation there has been of this terror attack in the Western media. Some have even been cheering it on as an act of resistance.
As well as our economic/military dominance, we seem to be losing our moral compass too.
The rise of terrorism in late 20th century was sponsored by The West. I am old enough to remember US sending Stinger missiles to freedom fighters in Afghanistan (nowdays known as Talibans and Al-Qaeda), so that they could kill more Russians. You can’t lose moral compass if you never had one.
Yes. I’m aware of all that. However, there has been a longstanding tradition of frowning on terror acts, even when they are against unfriendly nations.
We have entered an unpleasant, disturbing, and dangerous new time since the SMO kicked off.
How much is the CCP paying you to say these things? Surely no one could be so delusional as to actually believe such rubbish and post it in all sincerity.
The Russians invaded Afghanistan and started a war there. The US aided the indigenous population in fighting the Russians in that war. War is war and not terrorism, at least as defined by the vast majority of sane people across the globe.
So what, if, in retrospect, it was a bad idea to help elevate Bin Laden to hero status? You think it was done on purpose, no doubt, as opposed to being a failure to understand – because to you, the US government is incompetent when convenient to your story telling and then very competent and far sighted when that idea fleshes out your narrative – which is simply that the US is and always has been uniquely evil.
Meanwhile, it was the Tamil Tigers who invented suicide bombing. You will, I’m sure, want to say the US was behind that. Yeah, you probably would blame the US for it because 90% of the people commenting here seem pathologically given to (or paid to disseminate) whacky conspiracy delusions as long as they pin the evils of the world on the US. In your twisted fantasy world, no doubt, the US was responsible for the assassination of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand, because that was an act of terrorism. Gavrilo Princip was just a patsy, right?
Before Afghanistan, the Russians supported terrorism in Vietnam – the communists killed – via terrorism – large numbers of educated (and uneducated) VN citizens who opposed communism, with Russia supplied guns & ammo. Russia also supported terrorism on the African continent and in the MENA. I would call the iron curtain, Berlin Wall, etc. “terrorism” of a type, though you’d probably call it “paradise”.
Didn’t your son invade Afghanistan to help local population by reducing overpopulation? I bet you are proud father of a war criminal teaching moral lessons.
Sorry for not reading the enteirety of the batshit-crazy post.
No. He invaded your mother, for $5 USD
Ah…. the power of the US dollar as reserve currency. Or is your mother only accepting bat muncher bucks now?
You should not talk about our mother like that.
You forgot to mention that the Soviet Airforce dropped napalm in Vietnam.. We remember these videos of the Tupolev filming their own bombing raids.. Later, the USSR airstrikes we viciously redirected to Laos and Cambodia.. Millions died!!
Easy to understand why people from these countries as so russophobic today!
Napalm was produced by Dow Chemical Company : a famous bolshevik company located in Leningrad… THAT is TOP LEVEL FACT CHECKING!
Kissinger received a Nobel Prize for peace! Most of his life, he promoted freedom and democracy… Thanks to you, we will never forget this Human Rights champion!!
I am not even talking about the russian drone wars… They were just killing presumed terrorists regardless of where they live!! Thanks to Obama for exposing these russian warcrimes!
Someone told me that Putin himself is responsible for the use of depleted uranium munitions in Falloujah.. Kudos to the ICC!!
On behalf of the Unicorn Community, thank you for posting your enlighting comments! UR a mentor for us!
Larry why do you allow such lies, ignorance, rewriting of facts, and disinfo here?
“The Russians invaded Afghanistan and started a war there. The US aided the indigenous population in fighting the Russians in that war”.
You have completely lost the plot Old dill, or you are a disinfo agent.
Because I count on people like you to correct the record. Eric discredits himself with such outlandish statements.
Larry,
What outlandish statement exactly?
You seriously think the US was the primary – or only – source of terrorism in the world during the 20th century?
If so, you are the one discrediting himself, his profession and his country. Are you being paid by some foreign government to encourage such ridiculous thinking? Seriously.
For starters, there is a lot of evidence that the U.S. provoked the Soviets to invade Afghanistan in 1979 as part of a U.S. strategy to bog the Soviets down. Happy to share that info if you’re interested.
Second, can you stop accusing people of being paid foreign agents, including me, just because we posit something you disagree with?
Finally, U.S. overseas military operations became an inspiration for terrorist movements. Bin Laden was pissed at the US presence in Saudi Arabia for starters. Our actions in Iraq created ISIS and then, some years later, we end up supporting some of those people because we want to get rid of Assad. I don’t think the US is the primary source of international terrorism, but we need to accept some responsibility for what our actions have wrought. You disagree?
Larry believes in freedom of speech…Just like us.. Everyone is allowed to express his/her opinion, even if it is based on CNN ( aka The Cable Newhill Network)!!!
The idea is to remain polite and avoid vulgar language.. CNN is always ready to start the provocations! We can learn how to cope with it!
Larry,
Yes. I completely disagree and you response diminishes you.
The Russians were “provoked” by the US into invading Afghanistan so the US could bog them down? Come on. Do the Russians have no agency? The US allegedly dangles some rumors of some little threat and the Russians – allegedly 5D chess players – just fall for it and invade countries? Btw, if you think that is what happened, then the US won that particular match. I thought we are total incompetents. Maybe you should soften your hyperbolic predictions of doom for the US at the hands of Russia and China.
Bin Laden has no agency either? He had no choice but to launch terrorists attacks. He should be excused because the US made him do it? That is some twisted thinking, in my opinion. Turning oneself into a mental pretzel to place blame on the US. The Saudis invited the US into their country b/c they were afraid of Saddam and of Iran (still are afraid of Iran). Bin Laden was just a radical scum that couldn’t cope with the realities of life on planet earth and decided to kill a lot of innocent people. Incredible that you excuse him.
I am not a foreign interventionist. I’m a lot closer to a US isolationist. I do not think the US should be interfering in Ukraine or a dozen other places that it is involved with. Furthermore, I do see the US straying ever more distant from its core values; perhaps irreversibly so. In fact, in the past few years it has become an outright lunatic asylum run by the lunatics. That said, the solution is not to embrace kooky conspiracy theories and sell US distorted history.
Where I part company with you and your not-so-merry band of whining, hateful, malcontents is that I have seen enough of the world to know that the US is not a uniquely rotten country, as you and your minions want it to be. The Russians, Chinese and smaller powers, right down to tin horn dictators in distant remote places, commit as much evil as they possibly can given the extent of their ability to do so. The world has always been that way – and always be ….. because that human nature. Stating that the US has been the major sponsor of global terrorism in the 20th century is a clearly ludicrous position to hold. The Turks killing off 33% of the Armenian population? The Nazis? Mao? …..the heck with it. The list is far too long and why should I bother? You seem incapable of processing reality when it runs counter to your narrative. The spirit of Hanoi Jane is strong here. The poor little communists were forced to kill all of the intellectuals. America made them do it!
Our country merits some strong critique and improvement. But no one is going to pay attention to anything like that coming from extremist haters seeing everything through fun house mirrors level of distortion and making excuses for dictators and terrorists.
You can wallow in ignorance if you wish or pick up a copy of THE VALEDICTION, BY PAUL FITZGERALD AND ELIZABETH GOULD. The evidence of the U.S. actions is laid out. It is not opinion. Also suggest you watch this video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2JAJZfPLeYk.
The United States is a goddamn bully. Period. We’ve bullshitted ourselves for years that we mean well, but millions of dead Vietnamese, Iraqis, Cambodians, Afghanis, Somalians, Serbs, Syrians, etc say different. If there is a God and God is just then America is due a major ass kicking.
@ERIC
I just rewatched all the episodes of the 1964 TV series STINGRAY.. These videos confirm the validity of your analysis…Now, I can say that I totally agree with your opinion about Vietnam and Afghanistan.
The Stingray heroes were not marionettes, they were real HUMANS!!
I was fooled by the russian propaganda! The Russians lied to me.. They told me that the TV series was a fiction!! I am so upset!!!
For years, Putin made me look like an idiot!!
Thank you Eric for opening my eyes!!!
BTW, Flash ( my best friend) is also a permanent member of your fan club!!
Flash is a bit myopic but he is proud to be russophobic!
@ Rosco P Coltrane
Come on Rosco!
Are you a troll??? Why are you trying to undermine Eric’s credibility???
You perfectly know Eric is right… as ALWAYS!
The Soviets had no reason to invade Afghanistan!
The two Chechen Wars were also totally unjustified..
The Russians are the worst warmongers ever! That is why they have more than 750 foreign military bases.. Most of them located near the USA and Canada!
We have been told that Russian nuclear subs are regularly seen near the shores of Prince Edward Island… Unacceptable!
Finally, Rosco, you should consider yourself lucky to be allowed to disagree with Eric on this website! On our official Woked Unicorn site, you would be censored 24-7!!!
We’ve got bad news for you Rosco :
The SMO will be a total failure for the Russians, Unicorns can fly and they can breathe under the water… You, Rosco, cannot breathe under the water! This means : Shut up Rosco!!!
You can apologize to Eric Newhill now!
Nothing new. Remember 1948? Some countries are more equal than others.
The use of terror by the Axis of Good is the norm, not the exception.
I think you can get tangled up in contradictory positions if you try to make an argument that within the killing machine there are good guys or bad guys wearing different coloured scarves or campaign buttons.
The fundamental hole in the moral argument, which is the Original Sin of the Machiavellian approach, is that slaughter is”necessary” due to a prisoner’s dilemma. If it’s an argument of how many innocent people you kill and not whether you kill innocent people, then the Good Guys are always self declared for cultural reasons and who talks loudest.
Why do you people assume that she, or someone else did not have remote trigger for the bust?
So yes, if they call you to sit next to them, you sit a bit, and then you go to toilet and press the button, I don’t really see why would her sticking around make her any more guilty or not guilty at all…
Well I suppose Stauffenberg did go to the toilet……….but the Manchester Arena bomber – Salman Ramadan Abedi, did stick around…….and MI5 had him on their “radar”………
She gave the man – whom she had first gotten to know in Moscow – a bust which exploded………..
You think she might be innocent………but in USA they lock up Palestinians for killing Robert Kennedy because he was in the vicinity……….
I understand she is sharing the same lawyer as Gershkovich………..doesn’t the US Embassy know TWO different lawyers ?
“but in USA they lock up Palestinians for killing Robert Kennedy because he was in the vicinity”
Sheesh. Is there any retarded conspiracy theory that America haters here won’t fall for hook, line and sinker because they hate America and if something bad happens anywhere in the world, America MUST be behind….the only evil people in the whole world are Americans and Jews. I hear tell that before America existed, the earth was a utopia and it will be again once the noble CCP + Russia eliminate America…….freaking tools of the first order.
Why would anyone self centered assholes that think that world revolves around themselves, nevemind.
Boy, do you have a serious chip on your shoulder.
This is not directed at you in particular. I would ask that we tone down the personal attacks. Address Eric’s arguments and the substance without attacking him personally. I’ve been guilty of such and will be the first to try to live by my own advice.
Correct!
Russia and CCP are threatening us on a daily basis!
That is why I recently installed four layers of barbed wire around my backyard!
Your warnings helped me to make this wise decision! Thanks!
If some SU-34 appears suddenly over my city, I am ready to use my rifle!
In my book! You are, Eric, the new Walker, Texas Ranger!
@Eric Newhill
We hear you loud and clear!
I transferred your message to the unicorn community! They immediately started to turn cartwheels!! You are making a difference in this world!!
Thank you UNICORNS for your enlighting comment!
Eric Newhill is making one small step, but he is making a GIANT LEAP for mankind!
Armstrong said mankind???!?
Well.. Armstrong should have used appropriate pronouns.. This sexist, racist and transphobic person should be cancelled!!
Because leaving the decision of when also leaves her an option to abort. And it is unlikely her handlers would leave her that decision.
Again and for fear of repeating myself, the United States of America is now factually at war with Russia. Whether a spy or not, Mr. Gershkovich was apprehended in an apparently compromising situation. He`s an American and as such, must be presumed to be (possibly or probably) working for the enemy.
All else follows from these facts.
USA would never arrest foreigners just because they are from a country they are at war with. Ask the Japanese.
I really can’t understand why Larry is so much invested with this ,, WSJ so called journalist“, to be honest he was arrested because he violated the “State Secret” laws in Russia, if America can use indictment under the Espionage Act of 1917 and sent to prison so many people then why is so strange or WHY can’t Russia do something similar, what bothers me is the fact that Larry defends the 3 letters agencies with an exaggerated inversion, although Larry himself tells us that the 3-letter agencies are full of incompetents, with sole objective to satisfy the bosses, then why not an incompetent with desire to advance/ to get into the good graces. tried used a reporter to achieve the goal. The existence of a law that prohibits use/recruitment of journalists in Security Agencies DOES NOT ENSURE compliance, these agencies seem to have a total disregard for the law.
I will explain it again. SHOULD I USE ALL CAPS? It is the habit of authoritarian governments to label journalists as spies for the audacity of publishing secrets. Under this definition then Daniel Ellsberg and Julian Assange are spies and should be so treated. I strongly disagree with that. I can live with the risk that a reporter writes a story that IS PUBLISHED and exposes something a government wants to keep away from the public.
I think that the real question here is, if you agree/disagree with the claim that Russia is at war with USA?
I think the more accurate phrase is that the USA is facilitating a war against Russia and Russia is defending itself without directly attacking the USA. I’m amazed at the Russian restraint.
In times of war, there is no such thing as an investigative journalist from the country you are at war with. I don’t think there were many German investigative journalists hanging around Yekaterinburg 80 years ago.
BTW, is it somehow possible to prevent that “Eric Newhill” guy replying to my posts. I know you keep him around as a village id**t, but he should not be allowed to harrass those not interested in that type of “entertainment”.
Many, if not most, of those “foreigners” were US citizens.
“[T]he United States of America is now factually at war with Russia.” Actually, the United States is at war with itself. Russia has become just another projection.
It’s like Nancy Pelosi (a professional politician who lies for a living), saying how Trump will be able to prove his innocence in a Court of Law. Forget “innocent until proven guilty.” Forget that the court Trump will be facing belongs to a fully controlled, fully owned, and fully manipulated Democrat Regime, headquartered in New York State, a super majority state, owned by the Democratic Party.
Not much of a compromising situation there.
Gershkovich is not an American. He’s a “Journalist.” They lie for a living.
This thing is messed up on so many levels.
Nancy Pelosi stated that Trump will have a chance to prove his innocence. That statement should have caused Americans to leap out of their skins. Justice has been torn to shreds. Liars and crooks rule. They are judges and juries. The cancer is spreading out of Washington and New York.
For non-American readers, in the US, there is a purported assumption of innocence and the crown (ok judicial system) has a chance to prove guilt.
I just don’t understand my country anymore. I especially don’t understand the people.
And here I was thinking all through my life that in court the accusers have to prove guilt.
How silly of me.
She’s wearing a UMaine sweatshirt and Evan Gershkovich went bowdoin
Sweatshirt
https://www.newsroom.sk/2023/04/04/darya-trepova-russia-cafe-bomb-suspect-charged-with-terrorism/
Dmitry Rylov is her husband now wanted and presumed emigrated from Russia. He probably is not the recently retired Russian figure skater however but stranger things…
Maine has been a backwater location where individuals have entered the US through lax border crossings. Such as Mohammed Atta on 9/11. Coastal locations have been a vacation spot for DC elites going back to 1880’s Rockefeller, Morgan, Ford, etc. Also for espionage where the Toymaker resided and Helen & Scott Nearing etc. Elite mid level management govt liberals, govt communists and govt agents still have family summer “cottages”. A captain of the USS Nautilus had lunch with his parents in the 50s off Hancock Point.
So it would not be a surprise to learn that these bombing nuts could have some connection to a certain govt.
Let’s not forget the Boston bombers whose uncle had a certain acquired taste for alphabet soup.
Larry,
You are making the presumption that the CIA is always competent.
Not the least bit clear that this is true.
Secondly, the CIA doesn’t need to overtly recruit. There are many more possibilities including:
1) The useful idiot. Encourage some numbskull to travel to Russia and do all sorts of stupid violations of Russian law right out in the open.
If the sucker gets arrested, accuse Russia of “oppressing freedom of the press” – win!.
If the sucker gets solid data, win!
2) The screener. This journalist was clearly scrounging for people who are unhappy with Russia’s policies. Once some group of the right type of people are identified, a “real” spy can then make an approach. Yes, you can do screening more subtly – but you can’t do screening fast that way. And it is 100% clear that the US intel agencies don’t have jack diddly in terms of humint on Russian war industrial production any more.
I’m sure real spies can think of plenty more ways to use a numbskull in the wrong place at the wrong time.
You are making the presumption that the CIA is always competent.
If I’d been in her sponsor’s shoes, I’d have gone for the exploding cigar.
Maybe one day they will make an exploding cigar that actually takes your head clean off. And something you can smoke with enjoyment.
We have islamofascist and ukronazi allies for that. It’s soo messy. Best we farm it out.
There is no freedom of the press.
Western media is fully-captured, fully-owned, fully-manipulated by rogue billionaires and corporate oligarchs. There are no journalists only propagandists. It is a very short distance from being a lying, cheating, stealing, two-timing, home wrecking, cold-hearted, loser for a living to being a government agent.
A law. Oh, please.
“Freedom of the Press” took on a whole new meaning when Woodward and Bernstein started using and relying upon un-named sources, anonymous tipsters, so-called experts, personified by “Deep Throat.” For all we know “Deep Throat” was CIA. “Freedom of the Press” made a deal with the Devil, and the Devil collected.
Eisenhower warned the American People on national television about the dangers of a Military Industrial Complex (MIC). And where are we now?
JFK had wanted to stop the FED’s and the FBI’s interference with the US government, and look what that got him.
There is justifiable evidence that President Richard Nixon was brought down by the CIA, using “The Washington Post,” all because Nixon wanted to bring an unaccountable secret intelligence agency to heal. We all know how that worked out.
Now we have what? Seventeen (17) unaccountable secret intelligence agencies in the United States?
“Trust us. We’re a journalist.”
“Trust us. We’re the government.”
Every time one of these so-called journalists gets arrested for espionage and says: “But I’m a Journalist.” I just roll my eyes.
Enough is enough.
Bit unfair to throw in folks like Sy Hersh, Glenn Greenwald, John Pilger, Patrick Lancaster, etc with the MSM stooges.
There are people out there doing interesting and useful stuff. Like Larry.
One good “journalist” does NOT un-rot a whole barrel.
Didn’t congressional democrats do their best to imply that Taibbi was a Russian paid tool under questioning?
Taibbi wrote for the Rolling Stone Magazine, another arm (tentacle) of the state owned, state run, state manipulated, mainstream media (propaganda machine). And “NO!” Taibbi does not get a pass. Once a propagandist always a propagandist.
Not to quibble, but the argument that the CIA would not use an obvious tool is yet again a solid argument as to why they would use a journalist.
Circles within circles. I read Spy-vs-Spy in Mad Magazine.
All those decades promulgating instabilities abroad to consolidate power and wealth. Now all those Dark Birds are now coming home to roost and you have to wonder in awe at the stupendous hubris of it. How could anyone think the evil wouldn’t work wouldn’t be turned its self back to the practitioners doorstep?
I have no evidence of intentionality but people they have a way of servicing their own interest and desire for power in astounding selfish and evil manner without realizing what they are doing is wrong..

I loved the interview it was great
I look forward to Judge and you doing the interviews.
Interesting revelation of Evan’s “night ride to Nizhny Tagil” from a Yekaterinburg radio station (in Russian):
https://www.google.com/search?q=%D0%AD%D0%B2%D0%B0%D0%BD+%D0%93%D0%B5%D1%80%D1%88%D0%BA%D0%BE%D0%B2%D0%B8%D1%87&tbm=vid&ei=vukuZLbHLvuqptQPgZSc6AE&start=10&sa=N&ved=2ahUKEwi2nqyxzZX-AhV7lYkEHQEKBx0Q8tMDegQIDxAE&biw=1536&bih=722&dpr=1.25#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:50b6360c,vid:mdx731MUnVQ
If the account is true then Evan Gershkovich either did provide some friendly help to spy on the Uralvagonzavod to CIA or was entrapped by the GRU or FSB to make him think he was doing that.
Tucker Carlson calling out Biden and American policy.
Best interview with Carlson in a long time.

Harper states:
“It is with great sadness that we inform all of the loyal members of this Committee of Correspondence that Col. W. Patrick Lang passed away after several months of illness on April 4. During his illness he asked several of the regular writers on the blog to keep up the efforts as he battled his illness. We intend to continue this effort. He will be greatly missed. The world has lost a true hero and the nation has lost a great patriot. More details will follow in the coming days.”
RIP Colonel, RIP
He really lost his way these last two years. His irrational decision to ban Patrick Armstrong, Andrei Martyanov and me were the early signs that he lost his fastball. A sad demise and legacy.
I was banned as well, not sure why but am convinced that TTG did that one. It was right about when he seemed to have taken over Col Lang’s mind. Oh well. I wonder what happened to Deat? She was interesting.
Pat’s decline was really sad. For years you could count on him for top notch intel analysis. But then Covid happened. I’m pretty sure he suffered a vaccine injury, which is what ultimately killed him. He completely lost his bearings on Ukraine and I think was in the early stages of dementia.
The vaccines killed him, for sure….I recall him telling about he and his wife having gone to vaccinate themselves as “good citizens”…
He confussed being committed to his nation with being committed to its government, which no more work in the interests of own nation, neither in the US, nor anywhere else in the Western world, for that matter.
Along with many in the world, probably could not swallow the fact that his government wanted to get rid of the higuer number of elder, and pre-elder people, as possible….
I got to appreciate the man for a while, during the period he was denuncing US shenanigans in Syria, and really thought he was looking for peace in the world.
Then it all passed….as he entered in full into the narrative of lies and warmongerism related to Ukraine.
His fate has been the same of a lot of septuagenaries and octogenaries througout Europe, a real massacre, a genocide, as many of all those people were expected to survive to their 90s, according to current standards of health care, diet and life style, like Kissinger, Rockefeller, and so on….
His wife should make an autopsy and sue the government…it is all there, in his body….the proof….
It could be a real posthumous service to his nation….only a relevant person, free of any suspicion, could achieve unveiling this serious affair….
P.S: Mr. Johnson, if you deem my comment very audacious, then do not post it.
Notice that both, Pelosi and Biden…( Klaus Schwab is even older than him…) are of his same age and then they walk over there fresh as a lettuce….
Unvaccinated, for sure….
Just a rather important point; the Mrna poisons are not vaccines so one can not be “vaccinated” when injected with it.
Larry,
With all due respect
I wanted to caution you about using the “gd” word.
“good”?
gday….. and watch our for them pesky ausssies. Next thing you know they’ll be demanding more free arms than the ukragrifters.
In surreal news, male OEM transgenders are being turned back at the Ukrainian borders and ordered to report for military service. They are down to chainganging the trannies. Another sign of the incipient glorious UkroNazi victory.
This reminds me of when they were pushing gay marriage. As a recipient of three sets of sodomy via divorce lawyer? I wryly lifted my glass and wished them “Good Luck”.
Oh, and on an odd note. I got a cold call. When I got out of the military, I was a radar air traffic controller. The contractors that do training tracked me down and wanted to know if I wanted an effing job at 63. I laughed and told them to send me the packet. They can get tweakers to do part time at Walmart. Illegal immigrants to tack roofs on. But old white guys that can pass a drug test and show up on time that can do math? Evidently, I am a hot commodity.
The arrest of Evan Gershkovich just shows how devious VV Putin actually is. He needs someone to trade for his lackey Donald Trump once he’s imprisoned!
@Peter VE
Now I understand!
Putin asked Trump to send 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles on Syria (in 2017).. And Trump obeyed to his Russian master.. It is making a LOT OF SENSE!!!
Trump and all the republicans are puppets controlled by the Russian Global Dictator… OBVIOUSLY!!!
I was supposed to learn this from CNN.. But Thank you Peter!!!
Only Brandon and Kamala can save us from the forces of Evil…
@Ralph Furley
You are wrong Ralph!!!
Hillary provided us with all the evidence : Trump and the GOP are totally controlled by Putin! Confirmed repeatedly by CNN, MSNBC, Tweeter and Facebook!
You should rely on Peter’s opinion and CNN!
CNN never lies! Hunter’s laptop WAS RUSSIAN DISINFORMATION!!
We need a Ministry of Truth… ASAP!!!
We need a WOKE Ministry of Truth..
I agree with Peter VE!
Putin wanted Trump to attack his syrian allies.. Trump was reluctant, but he decided to submit to the Kremlin Master!!
I really enjoy Peter VE’s comments!!
I also enjoy listening to the speeches of John Fetterman!!
Quality first!!!
