This is disturbing and alarming — Biden issued an order activating up to 3000 Ready Reserve and Select Reserve military personnel and sending them to Europe for potential combat with Russia. This is not a hoax. It is on the White House website:
By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, including sections 121 and 12304 of title 10, United States Code, I hereby determine that it is necessary to augment the active Armed Forces of the United States for the effective conduct of Operation Atlantic Resolve in and around the United States European Command’s area of responsibility. In furtherance of this operation, under the stated authority, I hereby authorize the Secretary of Defense, and the Secretary of Homeland Security with respect to the Coast Guard when it is not operating as a service in the Navy, under their respective jurisdictions, to order to active duty any units, and any individual members not assigned to a unit organized to serve as a unit of the Selected Reserve, or any member in the Individual Ready Reserve mobilization category and designated as essential under regulations prescribed by the Secretary concerned, not to exceed 3,000 total members at any one time, of whom not more than 450 may be members of the Individual Ready Reserve, as they deem necessary, and to terminate the service of those units and members ordered to active duty.
Operation Atlantic Resolve is the name for the U.S. military response to Russia’s Special Military Operation. While the number of troops being activated and deployed is not large, is Biden making a direct threat to Russia that is likely to elicit a very unpleasant response from Putin.
In terms of bolstering U.S. military capabilities this is a nothing-burger. But it is the symbolism and the thinking behind this decision that is frightening. But this is not all.
According to one of my retired CIA buddies, at least two B-52s are on the ground at an U.S. Air Force in Alaska. This is highly unusual, according to another old friend who flew B-52s. Moving these planes forward to Alaska is stupid saber rattling. This is not going to assuage Russian concerns about Western intentions, it is going to move the Russians to hair-trigger status.
And do not forget about U.S. plans to send nuclear capable F-16s to Ukraine:
Russia’s Foreign Minister Lavrov wasted no time in warning the United States and NATO that if the F-16s arrive in theater, Russia will treat them as a potential nuclear threat:
Russian FM Lavrov: The US and its NATO satellites create the risk of a direct armed conflict with Russia, and this is fraught with catastrophic consequences.
Just one example of an extremely dangerous development is the US plans to transfer F-16 fighter jets to the Kyiv regime. We have informed the nuclear powers, the United States, Britain and France, that Russia cannot ignore the ability of these aircraft to carry nuclear weapons.
No assurances will help here. In the course of hostilities, our military will not sort out whether each specific aircraft of the specified type is equipped for the delivery of nuclear weapons or not. The very fact of the appearance of such systems in the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be considered by us as a threat from the West in the nuclear sphere. The aggressive steps of unfriendly states create an existential threat for Russia. There is no doubt about this. We will have to defend our right to free and sovereign development with all available means.
I think Lavrov makes it very clear that Russia will destroy those planes “with all available means.” If faced with a nuclear threat Russia will respond in kind. Biden ratcheting up tensions with Russia at the very moment that Ukraine’s failures on the battlefield are catastrophic. Instead of seeking to de-escalate the war and find an off-ramp, Biden and his team appear intent on provoking a nuclear war.

I live in a very small town in a BLUE state. At 5:30am the voting line was 3 blocks long. It has never been longer than 25 people standing in line outside the Town Hall doors.

I doubt that European Allies can spare any F-16 now that the war in Ukraine has confirmed that Air defense and strikes are essential for National survivability. And that the US and EU MIC are unable to supply NATO allies with new equipment for years.

The A-10 was a great CAS plane, in it’s time, against enemies who don’t have the AA defenses Russia does.
Against Russia, each A-10 would likely make 1 flight, and not be returning to base, if they manage to take off before the base is destroyed by a long range missile attack.
In the today’s world, drones rule the battlefield, and things like airbases, tanks, APCs, ships, aircraft carriers, artillery, manned airplanes – are all essentially obsolete. At longer range, hypersonic missiles will do the same job as drones.
Everything can be destroyed by swarms of cheap drones that cost a few thousand $ each.
A US carrier battle group, for example, with all it’s planes, support ships and personnel costs what, $30 billion or $50 billion, or $100 billion, I dunno, and several years to build, and will be destroyed by a swarm of drones that costs in total, less than $ 1 million, that take a week to build. Or as a recent Chinese simulation showed, 24 hypersonic missiles that cost China, I dunno, $1 million each, or less probably, and a month to build. Or 1 Russian corvette with 16 Xircon hypersonic missles that in total costs Russia far less than $1 billion probably and 6 months to build.
The entire war-fighting doctrine of the West is obsolete, designed to fight a war 40 years ago in a world that no longer exists today.
A country that can build a million or 10 millin cheap drones and deploy them would be the superpower of the future, with an infantry component to capture and hold ground after the drones have finished wiping out the enemy. Swarms of hundreds or thousands of cheap drones coming in waves every 10 minutes will not be stopped by anything I can think of, if they don’t use GPS guidance, and are insulated from electronic warfare interference.
Russia has a new drone that cost about $1,200.oo each, and has a “radio silence” mode where it flies to a target area, based on pre-installed terrain maps, locates it’s targets on it’s own, and attacks them, without any contact with an operator back at HQ, once it is launched.
Russian Lancet drones already do this, on their own, NATO jamming and EW only interrupts the video signal sent back to the operator’s base, causing some blurring and static showing in the videos they post online afterwards, but the video feed is not essential to the drones mission completion, it’s just a bonus feature.
NATO made a big mistake recently, IMHO, they brought in their latest and greatest EW jamming system to the area of the idiotic Ukrainian “Antononvsky Bridge landing”, and they did indeed jam the Lancet video feeds as Russian sources reported, but as far as I know that did not stop the Lancets from striking targets – and now Russia is aware of this new jammer, and are no doubt now busy working on how to counteract it.
You can see literally thousands of videos on Telegram etc of Lancets striking their targets, and the few that seem to miss are probaly from an internal component failure most of the time, Ukraine has shot very few of them down. And when they have examined the internals of the few they find intact or semi-intact, it is built with cheap commercially available componenets, mostly from China, that are based on 15-20 years old electronic standards, the most modern chips are not required or needed.

We’re talking about Airframes designed in 1975 and built originally from then til about 1985. Then they started the “Block Upgrades” with the Latest and Greatest being the F-16V, Block 70 upgrade. The ones they want to send to the Kraine are older versions, but either way, the Russians are, again, waaaaaay ahead of us in fighter plane tech. Theirs are simpler, tougher, and newer.

It’s a simple point of international law, that when an attack is launched from “country A”, the other side has full legal right to respond by destroying the base from which the attack was launched. Not a lawyer, but I suppose generalized attacks on “country A” would be completely legal, and need not be confined to the original attacking base. In simpler terms, any attack by “country A” on Ukraine would be an act of war. Not just an attack on the Russians, BTW.
Other comments have already pointed out that the Russians have a variety of weapons with plenty of range and firepower to destroy every F-16 base within F-16 flight range. Let me add that the RF also has plenty good recon and will know exactly where the F-16’s take off from. This is what makes the F-16’s such a non-starter for the West, even before we get to the part about the F-16’s being nuclear capable so any in-theater F-16 use would compel a complete Russian response. NATO”s only real purpose for putting F-16’s into Ukraine would be to pave the road to WW4. As I’ve said before, NATO is where they have to either go in or walk away, no third option, and they’re trying to run the bluff so they don’t have to do either. How can they imagine that debilitating the population of their own country is going to enhance its capacities as a world power? Depriving the majority of the largest population group of advanced education over now three generations. Importing landless peasants from around the world and expecting them to represent your post-industrial future. Focusing all of your efforts at creating inclusion on the known least educable demographic in your population. At the same time somehow keeping a large segment of the same group in a state poverty and social disruption and not accepting responsibility for doing it. Mind you, I think, and most agree, anyone with the capacity to pursue education should have the opportunity to do so. I’m not arguing against that. Then there’s the replacement of your native born scientific and technical class with imported non-European foreigners. And what else? I’m sure I missed something.
Maybe it’s time to fire the American elite and get a new one, recruited from the people who actually live here.

Biden agrees to send up to 3,000 reservists to Europe
The US Department of Defense will be able to deploy up to 3,000 troops to deploy to Europe, according to a new executive order signed by Joe Biden.
The European Command of the US Armed Forces EUCOM says that the signed decree will not change the size of American forces in Europe. The reservists will be able to take on tasks that were previously performed by military personnel as part of an “active” contingent, commented Douglas Sims, head of operations at the Pentagon’s joint headquarters.

My bet is the Ready Reserve and Select Reserve military personnel have already been deployed, and are already in Europe. Have been for months and even years.
Every time the United States has announced a further escalation of forces to the Russo/US “conflict” all these so-called experts have come out and said it will take years for these advanced systems and armaments to arrive on the field in Ukraine.
Some really incredible and lame ass reasons have been given for why something cannot be done. With the Abrams and Leopard 2 tanks, the so-called experts have said — insisted in fact — that the reason is that it will take time (maybe even years!) to train Ukrainians to operate these new systems.
And then within just a week of the announcement, Leopard 2 tanks and Bradley M-2s are burning in some Russian minefield.

My bet is that the whole NATO “Vassalage Party” held this week in Vilnius was another psyops designed to get back at Russia for punking the United States with Prigozhin. Ukraine still got its security guarantees.

In my opinion, the intention has always been to invade Russia. The only stumbling block was Putin and the Russian defense.
Ukraine had to weaken Russia militarily, and the sanctions would hasten this.

Larry–probably the best contextualization of the Prigozhin affair. Where it could still be strengthened I think is in addressing the benefits that RF counter-intel might hope to gain from letting it play out.
Hard to believe serious professionals in the West would expect the mutiny to succeed in defenestrating VV Putin, but easy to believe that their political bosses would see pretty much any and all mayhem as worth pursuing. Scott Ritter has done a good job of laying out how utterly reckless this was.
But the 12 lost pilots are one clear illustration of the drawbacks–actual and potential–of letting this run. I have to think that RF counter-intel had serious hopes of flushing out 5th-columnists (and, arguably, patriotic hard-liners as well), especially if the West could be led to activate those in their networks in Russia.
Perhaps it was successful, though the news suggests that it turns to have been a successful stress test of the system (perhaps, as an ancillary benefit rather than the objective). Travel arrangements and financial transactions in the hours before the Mutiny are likely being tracked.

1. For the US Army to fight Russia, a huge mobilization is required, not just 3000. Reservists provide most of the logistics manpower needed for the active force.
2. This would signal war, so maybe they announced 3000, and will use that authorization to quietly mobilize 300,000.
3. But I’d like to think the Army just needs to cover its severe manning shortage. It is down 45,000 soldiers due to recruiting shortfalls the past two years. This was not caused by low pay or lazy American youth, but smart Americans who don’t want to lose their legs fighting a stupid war.

The first link show a huge loss in active duty work force, 40% or more, since last year. Most seems to be in the Army, though the past months have been redacted. I just added up all the other numbers and subtracted. It makes sense that many are taking early retirement like during the Vietnam war and at least this time, there is no draft.
This is why you don’t join the military. Biden is sending 3000 people to die in Ukraine. This is next too all the supposed, trained Ukrainian spring offensive people already sent to die without air support so they were just supposed to die. We, all of us could get caught up in the emotions of this moment.
Don’t join the military then Biden can’t use you to fund the military industrial complex.
My two cents – I think this is indicative of multiple interests/groups of Western “elites” struggling with each other for control within the West. There are the neo-con half-wit super hawks who actually believe a military confrontation with Russia is survivable and then however many other interests who have some level of buy-in to that mentality. The Saker described it best when he referred to “The Biden”, labeling it a collection of those people who run the administration, rather than the man himself.
Various interests are being appeased with these actions and there is likely some half-baked plan for the B–52’s or this “Band of 3,000” to try goading Russia into making a dumb mistake. I doubt it will happen. If this thing is going to touch off into direct confrontation, the Russians will force the West to act overtly and in plain sight.
Russia truly holds all the cards and has been running the West around by their noses since the beginning of this. I’m sure they have made miscalculations but, unlike the West, they modify the plan and move forward, learning from the experience.
