If you have not seen the following three videos, do yourself a favor and spend the time to watch. Doug Macgregor is interviewed by Dr. Michael Vlahos about Ukraine and U.S. military strategy or its lack of strategy. It was recorded at the Army Navy Club in Washington, DC. I used to be a member. I think Doug is our smartest military commentator and pundit.
The first video focuses on the current war in Ukraine. A nice summary that will get you up to speed if you are fuzzy on the details.
The second video explores the question, “Why is NATO failing at the strategic level?”
The final video explores the question of U.S. military strategy and structure. Essentially the United States labors under the delusion that it has a robust expeditionary military force. That model is killing us economically and strategically. Doug has some great recommendations.
Saw it on Col Macgregor’s homepage being : Future Defense (US spelling ) Visions.
Larry has laid out the three videos in a much clearer manner. : )
It was interesting to hear these two gentleman discuss Britain’s last elites and America’s present day ensemble . Maybe it comes down to some sense of noblesse oblige and while the British upper classes always felt themselves to be superior , they never had the sense of contempt for the people or the country that America’s modern gentry wear as a badge of honour.
Col. Macgregor is honest to the point of bluntness and always a gentleman.
Speaking as a Brit who journied in Ashford/Bos/Kos/Iraq/Afghanistan.NI/South Atlantic/Oman and now retired I can say with authority that the entirely corrupted British Robber Baron/Rentier/Anti-Brexit/Globalist/Bilderberg/Trust Beneficiaries/Political classes have nothing but contempt for ordinary British people. Noblesse oblige was an historical fantasy with small application and has now assumed ambient temperature, in short, its as dead as the Dodo.
Unfortunately, British history has not been kind to most of the world including its own. But where does that leave the ordinary British people? The ones I meet also exhibit a kind of arrogance and poseur attitude, often inebriated but well spoken, and ultra cynical. Any hope for them other than The Guardian and pop/Royal culture?
youve been meeting the wrong people maybe?
There you go.

Yes, they prove it daily. They do it when they are willing to put up illegal immigrants in hotels and recreational resorts at a cost of millions per day whilst ignoring their own homeless and deprived. They do it when they readily find billions to support Ukraine but can’t seem to find enough to support public services and energy infrastructure. They do it when they easily and efficiently find billions in tax relief for City of London bankers but just find it incredibly irresponsible of nurses, police, border patrol, rail workers and others to ask for cost-of-living pay raises.
Contemptible lot.
“They do it when they easily and efficiently find billions in tax relief for City of London bankers ”
Perhaps you forgot present “discussions” to further de-regulate “financial services”, and by focusing on symptoms, you have never rigourously analysed:
What are “The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland”, and how are they facilitated, to transcend notions of “nation states/we are all in this togetherness”, and their derived illusions of “sovereignty” ?
Breaking News: Brits announced training of dozens of Ukrainian judges in how to conduct kangeroo courts. I hear they’ve employed former Twitter staff to aid in filtering evidence, not that they have any need for additional help on that front.
Quite the nation you’ve forged over the centuries.
Unforyunetaly, the English Elite have a tremendous blood liable done in your name and done to you. The only way you can divert karma is to stop your Elites. Just refuse the spread of any additional death and destruction in the name of making you prosperous. Are you more prosperous today or will your children be prosperous tomorrow? You constantly brag shamelessly about your Jolly Roger of yesteryear, yet, we see no future for you today. All we know is paybacks are hell.
It’s not just the English. The Scots, Welsh and Irish are equally part of it.
Scottish regiments were historically some of the most brutal committing genocide and mass killings with enthusiasm.
But let’s get to today. Today the UK foreign policy is run by the US, the intelligence services and a few think tanks. The British are genuinely paranoid that they can’t live without US protection and cooperation, not just on war but on trade and status. Insecure bastards. It will be their downfall, this desperate attempt to hold the coat tails of the US or manipulate them.
For those of you who want a detailed account of how the British Upper Class see the lower class read “Chums” by Simon Kuper.
An excerpt:
“The essential class structure of undergraduate Oxford was bipartite: middle classes versus upper classes. Toby Young captured this in a chapter in a 1988 book called The Oxford Myth, a collection of essays by recent undergraduates, edited by Boris…
Young divided undergraduates into two categories: âsocialitesâ (by which he meant the upper classes) and âstainsâ, the âsmall, vaguely deformedâ breed, with acne and anoraks, who hadnât been to posh schools, who came âfrom areas like Slough, Bracknell and Milton Keynesâ and who âwould scuttle across quads as if they had mobile homes on their backsâ.”
Kuper, Simon. Chums (p. 25). Profile. Kindle Edition.
Not all of the upper class saw the “others” like this. The first and second world wars saw officers who were from the upper class thrown together in the trenches with middle and working class. The realities of war and the life or death dependence of the officers and the men on each other made class irrelevant. In many cases great respect developed between them with many of those who survived becoming friends for life.
Of course WWII is two generations past, so this brief encounter of the upper class with the lower has gone to the graves of these men who fought together.
It’s now back to normal.
Indeed there are smart informed people telling the USA what time it really is. Will America wake up, or is it already too late. Time will tell I suppose. I am grateful that you are in this category and very hope that a core will emerge as a result.
America is waking up, but we’ve let things go so far that we’re arguing over what is a woman and whether or not basic addition and showing up on time is colonialist oppression. It’s not just that we don’t agree on big issues, we don’t have the basis for reaching agreement. We’re defending on our own 5 yard line and the ref is drinking buddies with the opposing coach.
There’s cause for hope as the emperor is really, truly not wearing any clothes, but let’s assess the situation correctly, and that situation is grim.
Well Said
I watched this when it came out and was struck by how both men cite facts and have reasons for what they claim. Versus the “Ukraine is winning. Are you paid in rubles, Comrade?” crowd.
I’ve never encountered one who seems to understand Russia has escalation dominance, is nowhere near Clausewitz’s culminating point, is massively deploying fresh troops and equipment, or has modern advanced weapons. Frighteningly this is most US media.
Some people are likely going to freak over the next several months. If Russia finally plows through heavily-fortified and constantly-reinforced Bakhmut, what stops them? Serious question
why take the risk of going thro if yr enemy obligingly brings their forces to a place where you can cheaply, in all senses, destroy them. I suspect the Rooskies will launch Deep Battle when the Ukrainian Army is mostly dead. They are extremely well resourced motivated but pragmatic flexible professionals who understand the importance of logistics killing the enemy and equally the relative unimportance of gaining ground, Unlike NATO whose military decisions currently appear to be overly influenced by Hollywood/Intra service rivalry/WW2/PR opportunities/and NeoCon wishful thinking.
Exactly. They have retreated from Kherson in order to let NATO-Ukro forces come to them. Surovikin even said that he is going to grind down the enemy. It’s a textbook war of attrition. Half a year ago they said that phase one has ended, and that they are going to do phase two by the book. The West doesn’t bother with books anymore, it’s all about movie adaptations.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MpQEumX-NGc
Perhaps they have watched too many movies, and really are that stupid. However I sometimes wonder if it is not something worse.
I have a question. Is it possible some of what we are seeing is ethnic cleansing with plausible deniability? I’ve been reading for months that predominately ethno-russian conscripts are given minimal training and sent, usually unsupported, to attack hardened dug-in Russian troops (sometimes with a nationalist rear guard to be sure they don’t retreat) and often over terrain covered by Russian artillery fire. The resulting massive casualties could be written off as a mistake if this were not repeated again and again. Stupidity, design or both?
Curious. I haven’t come across that notion and I do a lot of reading. Do you have a source for that? Seems a bit risky for the enforcers, putting guns to Russian backs. What’s to stop them from turning on their abusers?
Also, of the million or more refugees we saw entering Poland earlier on, how many were ethnic Russians? Easier to bug out to Poland than risk crossing the front, no? Fairly easy to fake being Ukrainian I would think, since half of them can’t speak their own language properly.
No one talks about these things but some of us think about them.
Thanks for the response.
No single source and nothing definitive. Only memory of many bits and pieces of info that fit this “picture”. This possibility recently occurred to me, or I’d have saved the info as I found it. Even if all the piecemeal info is true, it could be primarily incompetence, desperation and a lack of concern rather than an evil plan. So I’m not saying it IS happening, and I’d be happier if it isn’t.
Ethnical clensing have been going on in public since 2014. In Odessa, tens of Russians have been burned alive in broad dayligth in the city center, and murders were awarded. Why do you think people took arms in Donbass? What do you think Azov was doing in Mariupol all these years? Have you head about Tornado, Kraken, Aidar and others? Sending “lesser” conscripts into their death goes without saying, including executing on the spot of those that complain.
Not a discussion for the MSM. I could see Tucker hosting Col. MacGregor. Its so refreshing to hear carefully thought-out positions calmly expressed, rather than shouted talking points.
Thank you Larry. I saw it on the new (it seems to be) page of Dr Michael Vlahos. As you said, it is really worth watching it.
There is no such thing in the day and age as elites, nothing elite in any of them.

New Russia elite:
Family of origin: honest labouring communists who baptized their child.
It is a frequently testified turn, that while the demise of the UdSSR the “the last not yet corrupt ones…” (Prawda end of the eighties) ‘were with the KGB.
They, around Putin, aggregated in the lost nieneties the backbone of a new Russian formation, which under his leadership flourisches, a true Social-Democratic state.
Funny, Venezuela’s president is an ex-Bus-driver, Russia’s Putin earned temporarily a living for his family as taxi-driver.
That is proletarian elite, letting fresh air into world-history.
And there are the mighty families of the corrupt West and their dutiful elites, becoming toxic since the nineties actually commiting the economical suicide on the cisatlantic west by sanctions, fittings so conspiciously in the direction of the ‘reduction of mankind’, prosecuted by the World Economic Forum WEF with a carrying part of the ‘green’ billions of political (de -) donator G. I have been following Col, MacGregor since I first became aware of him some time ago. Clearly spoken and clear thinking, an impressive presentation.
I don’t know if he would even want the job, and I have no idea where the grassroots movement could come from, but he really would make a most excellent choice for the next POTUS.
Indeed he would.
Let me correct one aspect of the anti-British sentiment that says we are giving hard-won money to Ukraine when home needs appear wanting. The giving, all same America, is mostly weapon stocks long since paid for and written off. No doubt a bill is being assembled for the final reckoning and will no doubt be offset as a substantial “NATO contribution”. When or if push comes to shove I fear we will find the cupboard bare.
Recommend the videos above wholeheartedly.
Thanks for sharing this! Husband and I love him. We’ll watch him tomorrow.
Some the best – and longest – video of the war so far, a regiment of the DPR assaults Pervomaisky, a ruined village equally to the north of Donestk and as it is to the west of Luhansk.
15 minutes. 18+.

Lots of the usual takeaways, like; where is everybody, where are the vaunted and unassailable fortifications in this wartorn region, which according to the narrative, the Ukraine Army has spent the past 8 years constructing,* and why is Russian firepower not being brought to bear?
Speaking of which, has anybody seen the Russian Army, I mean since they left the warzone back in April? Other than the the beautiful withdrawl at Kherson, some quick visuals of Russian motorized columns motoring down some random highways here and there, and some shots of RF artillerymen working their pieces from miles behind the front, I sure as hell haven’t.
If I was a member of either of the Donbas militias, I’d be pissed. Not only does Russian Federation attempt to sell my people out at the negiotiating table, they then proceed to make us do all the fighting.
If the narrative is to be believed, this means my people, almost alone, are fighting the The Evil of the whole Western world!
And one of our capitols is still getting shelled! If it weren’t for the considerable help of the mercenary contractors of the Wagner Group, we’d really be in trouble.
But Colonel Macgregor feels confident that the Russian Army is actually out there somewhere, is in fact building up massive forces for multiple coordinated offensives under a single command, and it is about to steamroll over the mostly empty spaces of the Ukraine.
But only when the ground freezes, not before then. For we all know, you can’t attack during Rasputitsa, at least not the one that occurs in late autum. The one in the spring, well, that’s different.
For reasons. And that’s good enough for me.
*Haven’t seen a pill box, stretched barbed wire, tank traps of any kind, haven’t seen shit to be quite honest, other than short and shallow, hastily dug trenches, foxholes galore, and Ukie defenders using ruined farmhouses, or whatever man made structure is partially standing, as “strongpoints.”
Personally, I think the evidence is clear – and abundant! – that the Ukraine Army had no intentions of defending anything, that they spent the last 8 years preparing to go on the offensive.

“I have no idea what you are trying to convey.”
It is not trying to convey, but conveying to others – as is likely the case of the “contents” of the 3 segments, as indicated by the participants’ closing interpretations in context of “We the people hold these truths to be self-evident” ,as has been the case since at least 1969 not limited to one specific location.
I think you are dealing here with a remanent of the Tower of Babel.
I am listening to these interviews.
Thank you Larry for sharing these. Pedestrians, such as myself, are unaware of important facts and insights revealed in videos such as these.
I have started Jawbreaker, learning a great deal about the real truth behind the scenes of the news reports during the last 45 years of global events.
Many of your readers are much more aware of truths than those who sit in the stadium bleachers such as myself, but for those of us in the bleachers who unaware, your insights, and those of your readers, have raised our awareness, a bittersweet experience.
There is a whole strategy. People preoccupied with eating today aren’t interested in these topics, nor are those busy with the results of sporting events or silly worshipers of absurd celebrities.

Army Navy Country Club in Arlington, Va? Or did they open one in DC since 09? My company sold them a new phone system after they busted up the (Bell) phone company. Beautiful old building, tough to run cable in. My brother and I were of the last generation of kids to caddy at Army Navy Country Club in Fairfax, Virginia before riding carts took over. We used to also wade the ponds for golf balls to sell back to them. My Pop was a retired Chief Petty Officer Radioman, not an officer. With eight of us around the table, he probably couldn’t have afforded it anyway. He golfed at Goose Creek and whatnot and we walked, heh..I picture you a 10-handicapper, Larry? I’m a 20 off the (6100 yds, IIRC) Whites at Timber Green CC in NPR, Florida. Nice little course. Love golf. Now that I’ve clogged the post up with irrelevance, to the interviews.
MacGregor does a great interview, I usually catch he and Andrei Martyanov on Youtube early release somewhat before they post on the respective website/blogs. Napolitano interviews MacGregor a few times a week, those I also catch on Youtube. Napolitano used to be full-on Rah-Rah for wars, but has come home to Jesus on this one. He’s an excellent interviewer.
Anyone see the bust of the Russian/Ukrainian “spy” in Merrimac, N.H yesterday (one of 16 around the region if the Globe is to be lelieved)? One TV station said they were smuggling sniper ammunition to Russia, another said instruments oscilloscopes, etc, another said intelligence. I always smell a rat when the FBI lands on something, can’t believe em anymore. But the Boston Globe ran an extensive article on the guy, too long to post here, but if you can’t get past the paywall, lemme know, I’ll send it to you in whole. As of Wed. morning, WashPost has nothing on it. Spy stuff fascinates me, especially who the FBI leaks to, which papers carry what version of which story and so on.
https://www.bostonglobe.com/2022/12/13/metro/spies-microchips-night-lights-story-an-alleged-russian-weapons-smuggler-small-town-nh/
Smuggling sniper ammunition to Russia is equivalent to smuggling carpets to Persia.
Typically, copy the title (or retype part of it), put it in quotes, and do a search in your fave search engine.

And it’s all bullshit. They fed differing accounts to different outlets, TV and the papers.
Very much appreciated these discussions as am always learning something new. Perhaps I missed it but, am wondering where is the conversation regarding what the west wants to Cover-Up as a (or THE) reason for this proxy war? Laundering of funds (FTX involvement on behalf of the DNC?) and bioweapons labs funded largely by the US and other NATO countries, selecting puppets for governmental positions (Zelensky, specifically) — who will do the west’s bidding.
The whole interview reveal in fact tree essentials questions , what kind of defense force do you want , for what purposes and at what costs.
The part about naval and air force role in a thalassocracy, the costs of such a “worldwide 911 service for US politics” and it’s relevancy nowadays is spot on. The costs are staggering , last US president seeing that as a fact tries to share the cost between NATO members but don’t question the alliance was a mere tool for US dominance. The actual guy in charge pressed crtl+Z and launched his country on a suicidal war for the sake of it.
Now my dear Americans you’ll have to face the results ; a bankrupt country with no basics social services, a “jungle rules” economy, and politics that fuel wars it can’t wage anymore abroad for a purposeless questionable dominance.
It’s not about what can you make for your country anymore , it’s about what that country is all about to begin with. “There is something rotten in the Denmark kingdom”… and thanks to this two guy for dare saying it.
Savonarole, they do not have basic social services, not because they cannot afford them, but because they do not want.
Paying taxes, so everybody can have health services?
That is communism. And everybody knows that communism is the absolute evil.
(Don’t you see the people here?)
âThere is something rotten in the Denmark kingdomâ

Seeing two Sonar21 blog posts in the morning is like finding a 20 dollar bill in my pocket after laundry.
Impressive videos. Dr. Vlahos states that when the fictional narrative of the US collapses, there will be those (neocons) who will want to escalate. But will there be introspective, rational individuals who will intervene to avoid the great danger? Thank you for all the great articles and videos that are enlightening unknown numbers of people.
Pentagon only rationale ish institution in the US. Maybe corrupt but still some wise heads. Miley has already pretty much stated he thinks this should end. Austin very quiet, trying to keep communication lines open with Russia.
Col MacGregor for President! đ
These videos are so much more interesting because they are of a conversation between Macgregor and someone who knows a lot about military history, tactics, operations and strategy– intelligent questions, intelligent follow ups. None of Macgregor’s interviews with Fox journalists can compare. The scholar in Macgregor shines. Definitely worth watching in full.
That was a fantastic discussion. It helps a ton if the interviewer also holds an outstanding grasp of military history, strategies, and tactics… as Vlahos does.
Larry, thanks for posting this three-part conversation between Dr. Michael Vlahos and Col. Douglas Macgregor. It should be widely distributed, but wonât, for reasons you and I and all the readers of your blog know well. I listened to the conversation a couple of evenings ago and was thinking of distributing the videos to my friends, but now I will simply forward your link and comments introducing the conversation. Cannot say enough of how greatly I, as so many American patriots and people around the world who pay attention to Col. Macgregor through his regular interviews available on YouTube videos, appreciate and admire him. And Scott Ritter. And you.
History spirals up and down, forward and back, in loops. But having spent all my adult life in the academe in Canada, and now retired, it is sad looking back and see how lacking is historical thinking and imagination among the people in general in G7 countries. And hence the poverty of public discourse, of the degraded nature of politics, of the absence of introspection among the âruling classâ that the late Angelo Codevilla described and Rush Limbaugh regularly spoke about, and the dwarfs in every sense of the word as heads of G7 governments holding up the mirror for the rest of us to see who âwe, the peopleâ have become âhollow menâ that T.S. Eliot described so presciently almost a century ago.
In my view the Eurocentric Age is at an end. The Ukraine war has pulled the scab on these 500 years of historyâs loop in which Europe as Christendom went ahead of other civilizations â Islamic, Indian, Chinese â and when a scab gets pulled over old wounds inevitably the accumulated pus flows out, which is what we are witnessing as the collective West descends into cultural insanity. Other contemporary civilizations are watching and preparing for the post-Eurocentric Age in which they will likely return to the global stage they once held as significant actors.
Americans have forgotten (I am generalizing with all its hazards) Tocquevilleâs remarks in his landmark book on American democracy, or they donât read him when they do as carefully as they should, that he foresaw the time when the United States and Russia would emerge as the two powers overshadowing Europe. A sea power (America) and a land power (Russia) that separated by oceans, unlike European powers jostling in rivalries for supremacy, had no inherent reason between them to engage in wasteful quarrels endangering the lives and resources of the two states as continental giants.
The pity is that un-American or alien interests, those imported by the neocons which made taboo cannot be openly discussed, have as termites hollowed out the timbers of Americaâs culture and politics as a republic. The result is, contrary to Tocquevilleâs legitimate optimism about the future with the rise of America and Russia in global politics, Americaâs ruling class since the end of the Cold War has been seduced by alien interests to turn Russia into its enemy. If Tocqueville was among us, he would say, I believe, with near certainty that this will not end well for America, while Russia will survive as a cohesive power as it has done in the past. And in this survival of Russia the space will have been opened for China, India, and the Middle East to recover from the five centuries of humiliation, dependency, and resulting civilizational backwardness that in the loop of history became their fate that followed the making of the Eurocentric Age.
The irony, again âTocquevilleanâ in a sense, might well be that the end of the Eurocentric Age accompanied by the rise of China and India as civilizational centres in the global south, will also be the âliberationâ of America from its corrupted imperial ambition of being a unipolar hegemon and return to its republican values and the ideals of 1776. I certainly hope and pray for this outcome whether I live long enough to see it occur.
Amen and well stated. Thank you Mr. Mansur.

Larry,
Thanks for posting this! Col. Macgregor appears in lots of various interviews, many of which do not seem to be posted on his website–I hope he can start doing that.
Great for the Doug Macgregor–Michael Vlahos discussion–lucid and learned–to get as much circulation and attention as possible.
As to him with Tucker, he used to go onto Fox, didn’t he? But his truth is not that of Faux News, witness the inanities mouthed by retired generals Keane and Kellogg.
Thank you Larry. I saw Colonel MaGregor whith Dr Michael Vlahos, really worth watching it…
Colonel Douglas MacGregor could be a really great President of The USA…
An historian and a philosopher, plus a great human, like a sort of modern Sun Tzu…
Russian RT today features a very detailed article on the Tor-M2 anti-aircraft (anti-guided missiles) system.
https://russian.rt.com/russia/article/1085495-tor-m2-specoperaciya-boevoe-primenenie
Interesting is the attention paid to economy: the more accurate the air defense system works the less missiles are being wasted. One wonders whether articles like these are not written as well to attract future buyers of military systems like this one. Russia like any arms producer uses the Ukraine war theatre for showing & testing & refining its weaponry + exposing the weak points of the other competitors in this vitally important market. The victory over Ukraine at the same time implies a victory over Russia’s competitors in the arms market.
The Polish People are to be sacrificed next:
https://www.armstrongeconomics.com/world-news/war/poland-to-be-next-country-to-be-sacrificed/
+This is all needed because the monetary system is collapsing and we have reached the end of the road of fiscal mismanagement of borrowing every year, running deficits under socialism to bribe voters. Politicians no longer even know how to run for office without such promises. But they are reaching the capacity to sell their debt. As interest rates rise, nobody wants long-term debt. The only way to escape this debt crisis is to create war. That will be the excuse to default on all the debt and start all over again, hopefully with a reduced population. So the Polish are to be the next culture to be sacrificed at the altar of sovereign debt.+
When the fiat print collapses, there are the 3 methods of reconciliation:

2] default
3] they take you to war

Macgregor was the “squadron operations officer who essentially directed the Battle of 73 Easting” during the Gulf War.[2] Facing an Iraqi Republican Guard opponent, he led a contingent consisting of 19 tanks, 26 Bradley Fighting Vehicles and 4 M1064 mortar carriers through the sandstorm to the 73 Easting at roughly 16:18 hours on 26 February 1991 destroyed almost 70 Iraqi armored vehicles with no U.S. casualties in a 23-minute span of the battle.
MacGregor is a fighting soldier. An actual man instead of the political ass wipe “Officers” that now populate the US Armed Forces.
Wow, the linked videos are a veritable treasure trove of info. I hadn’t seen that series of interviews w/ MacGregor, only the interviews w/ Judge Napolitano, which are good, but not quite as good as those w/ Vlahos. Thx!
Thank you for a fascinating discussion which for me, explains a lot. I can’t help thinking the US now finds itself in a similar position to Russia, then the USSR, when they faced off against South Africa in Angola. In one battle, the SA forces made a strategic withdrawal, which the FAPLA bush fighters fell for, into an artillery ambush. Once they’d been decimated the South Africans counter-attacked and finished them off. They also overran their HQ and captured some Russians. Later a friend, the RSM of the Transvaal Scottish, attended the farewell party for some Russian officers prior to their return home in a prisoner swap. He showed me a picture of himself and a Russian general, enjoying some South African hospitality, drinks in hand, singing. He said the Russian said to him: “You South Africans like talk uncoded on your radios. Well guess what? A lot of words in the Afrikaans language are the same in Russian so it didn’t take us long to follow what you were saying.” Could the Russians have defeated SA? Absolutely, but at what cost? For us losing was not an option. For them it was an option.
We did have Olifant tanks and the G6 mobile cannon, with a reported range of 70 miles using base-bleed ammunition and a small number of nuclear missiles. I think the Russians learned from this and stopped trying to conquer the world and now focus on protecting Russia.
Perhaps the US should stop while the going is good.
In the unlikely event that they did conquer Russia, what the hell would they do with it? It’s full of Russians.
Great interview. With the interviewee perhaps seeking too much protagonism.
Errata: Great interview. With the interviewer perhaps seeking too much protagonism.
P.S. I confess that I was distracted watching the football world cup. Sorry. It happens.
Several years back, I had the great pleasure to sit with Col. MacGregor at table at the home of a mutual friend in an all too brief conversation. My impression? This is an officer, a gentleman, and a probing scholar of history with that scholarly interest being not merely to aggregate a heap of facts, but to assemble them into patterns contributory to the acquisition of wisdom, actionable wisdom informing conduct upon the world stage.
He was the real deal.
Fully agree. Doug is a rare cat.

Finally got a chance to listen to the Mcgregor interview. he reminds of the 3 visionary figures below who between ww1 and ww2 understood the type of future warfare that would be required to prevail in a future war and were constantly held back by shortsighted superiors . You can tell Colonel Mcgregor has done allot of reading and when it comes to the history of warfare and history in general is a true renaissance man.

Colonel mcgregor described the new style of pure integrated warfare where know with satellites and drones everybody knows what the other side is doing .
this is right out of the sci-fi slammers hammers style of warfare where tanks and artillery are a large part of it. Reaction times to the enemy are in seconds, not hours. i have read all of the books listed below.

Interlude: Table of Organisation and Equipment, Hammer’s Regiment
List of units in the Slammers. These include the Regimental headquarters with the command staff and the Regiment’s Fire Central fire control computer, which can take control of any vehicle-mounted powergun that bears on a target, usually airborne, and eliminate it; the training battalion that turns recruits into soldiers of the Regiment; the supply and support battalion; the Regiment’s artillery batteries; the infantry, mounted on battery-powered single person hovercraft called skimmers; the combat car companies; and of course the regimental fist, the Slammers’ tank companies. It also includes the Regiment’s field police company, the “White Mice,” mounted on combat cars and commanded by the dedicated and deadly Major Joachim Steuben, thought of by some in the know as Hammer’s personal hatchetman.
