You know that happy feeling when things are going your way? Everything is turning up roses? You got a nice buzz going? Well, if you feel that way then you certainly are not a member of Ukraine’s ruling elite. Some genuine chaos unfolding in Kiev in the wake of Russia’s victory in Soledar.
Let us commence with the news that someone (or a group of someones) assassinated Ukraine’s top three intelligence officials — the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Denis Monastyrsky, his first deputy Yevgeny Enin and the State Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Yuriy Lubkovich. Wait a minute (some will say) we do not know if this was a mechanical failure or pilot error. True, no final conclusions, yet. But an eyewitness interviewed by one of the Kiev media claimed:
that the helicopter with the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine on board was spinning and burning in the air before the collision.

If that witness is giving an accurate account then it is highly unlikely that the mid-air fireball was caused by pilot error or a mechanical malfunction. This sure sounds like a surface-to-air missile, like a U.S. supplied Stinger that popped up on the black market. Here is one of the rumors floating around Ukraine. It emerged shortly after the chopper crashed into a kindergarten courtesy of someone with the nom de plume, Hacker DPR Joker:
I will tell you all, my loyal followers, what happened today in Brovary. The Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine had long been aware that the leadership of the Ministry of Defense was trading Western arms, which came to Ukraine in the form of aid, for the benefit of third countries, and that this process was overseen directly by the head of the GUR, Budanov. By the way, this information has already surfaced somewhere.
The leadership of the Interior Ministry wanted their share and began collecting data through their structural units, which are associated with intelligence and surveillance. As a result, they managed to obtain evidence and began blackmailing. The military bosses promised a share to the police leadership, and the first tranche was paid. But it was pointless and unprofitable to pay any further.
In addition, the insolence of the minister of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, who had his head in the wrong place, was putting the military leadership under strain. And now the day had come when the kids from the GUR were able to demonstrate their skills. But that is not all. The sanction for this was given personally by Yermak, who is also in on the secret from the supreme narcissistic clown, Zelensky.
The key point for Hacker DPR Joker is that the head of Internal Affairs, Monastyrsky, was independent of the President, the military and the intelligence service (i.e., SBU). Because Monastyrsky is in charge of Ukraine’s national police, he and his subordinates were in a position to collect dirt on the illegal activities of Zelensky or the military and could use that as “leverage” (aka blackmail) to extract money or concessions.
That is at least one possibility that should be considered. What strikes me is that you had the equivalent of the FBI Director, the FBI Deputy Director and the Attorney General all on board the same aircraft. Why? What was their destination and why were all three on the same helo? Normal security procedures would keep the three men apart to avoid this very scenario. I cannot rule out the possibility that a Russian Spetznaz team carried out a hit. Regardless of who did it, this has created enormous turmoil within Zelensky’s government.
At a minimum, this is going to sharpen suspicions among the police, the military and the intelligence service. Warm, fuzzy feelings do not abound.
Preceding all of this was the forcible removal of Oleksii Arestovych, a former Ukrainian intelligence officer who, until this past weekend, was directing strategic communications for Zelensky. Mr. Arestovych made the mistake of telling the truth about a missile strike on an apartment building in Dnepropetrovsk. Accoridng to Arestovych, it is an errant Ukrainian missile. He said it was not Russian. Whoops!! That is verbotten. Not only was he fired (he reportedly tried to resign), but his name popped up today on the Ukrainian hit list reserved for enemies of Ukraine. That’s right. After a year of faithfully telling lies for Zelensky, he says something truthful and next thing you know he has a target for execution on his back.
Not a lot of good news in Ukraine other than the United States and Europe are promising to send more weapons to a beleaguered Ukrainian army. I actually think the Russians are more delighted by this than Ukraine. Reminds me of a scene from Game of Thrones when Tyrion Lannister thanks mutineers for an unexpected gift:

Yes “If” Arestovich had been targeted to be murdered, because he knows too much and is an unpredictable character, and “if” he narrowly just escaped an assassination scheme, THEN his subsequent behavior would make sense.
However, in such a scenario, given his intelligence and abilities, I would expect him to defect to the arch-enemy because that’s the only place he would be safe for the rest of his life.
There is no point for him to stay put in Kiyev in the present circumstances. But again, he may not be able to, for his kids being held hostage a way or another.
Pure speculation of my part.
Arestovych would periodically puzzle with some glimpses of “normalcy” in his Bagdad Bob routine – I read him recently trashing the ukronazis for making the words of their message out of the dead Russian soldiers bodies… I don’t know if he periodically comes out of his stupor or he’s planning indeed his exit for few months now. I think he saw the writing on the wall.
If Arestovych is still alive a month from now, or not in jail, given that he knows far too much about the war crimes, acts of terrorism, US provocation before Feb 24th 2022 and NATO involvement since 2014 (if not before then) — I’ll be very surprised. In fact, even suspicious. My thoughts would lean towards Arestovych being used as a trojan horse in the hopes that the Russians would think he’s deflected to their side and offer him asylum in the Russian Federation. Bad idea. Arestovych if not treated like a spy until the conflict is over would have access to the 2.6 million refugees (Ukrainian and ethnic Russians) who fled the Donbass as well as Pro-Ukrainian supporters within Russia that he could use to incite violent protest and a government coup. He is after all, a master with words and the PR game.

Arestovich did an interview last week and criticised zelensky for making a war against Christianity, for trying to eradicate the Russian language and isolating that people of the Donbass.
Interestingly he answered every question in Russian not Ukrainian.
His wife also in an interview November last year refused to answer the questions in ukrainian, and said she is more comfortable speaking in Russian.

Not really, until 2014 many “Ukrainians” outside Galicia could not speak “Ukrainian” with much facility even when buying produkti – even the Right Sector couldn’t translate their slogan from Russian into Ukrainian consistently.

Everything suggests there are a lot of loose Stingers floating around in the Ukraine. However, if this really was a deliberate attack on that helicopter, someone had to know who the passengers were and where & when it was likely to be flying — which would probably make it an inside job.

Pasta Quattro NAZI
Ingredients:
2L copium
500g no41 Penne Rigate
handful of kosher salt
50g each of Stoltenberg Blue, Azovite, NAFO, and finely grated Blinken
50cl whole milk
Start by boiling the copium. Add the rock salt. Then, heat the milk in a large sauce pan on a low heat. Once the copium reaches a full boil, add the pasta. Set the timer for two minutes less than the package says for al dente.
At the same time, add the Stoltenberg to the milk. Don’t turn the heat up too much! We don’t want to stress the sauce. Once the Stoltenberg has fully melted, add the NAFO.
Reserve one mug of the pasta-copium.
When the pasta is done, add it to the sauce pan along with the Azovite. Add enough of the reserved copium to loosen the sauce. Remove the sauce pan from the heat, add the grated Blinky and toss (mantecatura).
Plate up. To garnish, add a handful of crushed European dreams.

Regular soldiers/officers wouldn’t have known about the chopper passengers, or route. It’s either an order from the top, or “friendly fire” (or an accident of other sort).
That just means there is an abundance of ways to get the job done. The ideal hit is a “lone gunman” who somehow was able to buy a stinger in a parking lot for $20. A good system has several recursive drop lines that can be severed if the heat were to go up.

There was a rumour that 2 Special Operations personnel .. probably SBU where on the flight but their bodies have not been found so the overall body count dropped from 18 to 16…..one of the possible reasons cited by the Ukrainian government was sabotage so who knows..
Or, alternatively, it could be one of the western foreign intelligence services activating one of the many mercenaries operating there, slowly taking out everyone who could be in the “know” of what exactly transpired in the last few years between the west and Ukraine… Or just an accident. I would say what we see here, with the helo incident is what is known as “business as usual” in Ukraine. When I read of the three men and their positions in government, all being on the same helo I was shocked. I then asked myself, “What compelled all three of them to be on the same helo?”
Obviously, they needed to be somewhere at the same time and someone knew that.

Based on your logical reasoning, do you think the two incidents i.e. the chopper incident AND the Arestovich incident, might be connected and if so, in which way ?
I don’t even know for sure if the coming out of Arestovich occurred prior to the helicopter being shot down.
I have seen a bunch of videos with Arestovich, and he is talking shit all the time. I would not think too much about this specific one.

I read somewhere (possibly the NYT) that what Arestovych said was that a Ukrainian air defense missile struck a Russian missile which then fell on an apartment building. It certainly fits better with the usual Ukrainian narrative of intercepting the majority of missiles heading their way. And if that’s what he actually said, I can’t see sacking him for it.

I am continually impressed by the posts and commentary on this blog/site…by-in-large you are all critical/strategic thinkers so I’d like to pose a question. I think we’re beyond Russia’s stated objectives of “demilitarization” and “denazification” so what are the unnamed objectives? In terms of geopolitical shifts we are on the cusp of America’s hegemonic rule ending and entering a multi-polar era potentially led by new alliances (BRICs+, OPEC+, SCO, INSTC, etc.) and I don’t think that bodes well for the EU or the US.
